WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio publicly welcomed Sergio Gor as he formally assumed his role as the United States ambassador to India, signaling continuity and momentum in bilateral ties under President Donald Trump.

“Congrats, Mr. Ambassador. You’ll do a great job!” Vance wrote on X in response to Gor’s message marking his first day at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi.

Rubio echoed the sentiment in a separate post, writing, “You will do a great job!”

The messages followed Gor’s announcement earlier in the day that he had arrived in India and officially begun his tenure as ambassador. In his first public statement from New Delhi, Gor struck an optimistic tone and emphasized alignment with the Trump administration’s foreign policy priorities.

“Namaste! Today marks my first day at the US Embassy in New Delhi,” Gor wrote. “I am honored to join this dedicated team and eager to get to work advancing President Donald Trump’s priorities and deepening the US-India partnership.”

He added, “I couldn’t be more optimistic about the days ahead for both of our nations under President Trump’s leadership.”

Gor’s post included photographs from the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, showing him greeting embassy staff and addressing personnel beneath the embassy seal, with American and Indian flags displayed prominently.

His arrival and first-day message drew attention from policy observers and members of the Indian American community, many of whom highlighted the significance of his early outreach.

Asha Jadeja Motwani, an Indian American investor and commentator, described the development as “excellent news.”

“US Ambassador Sergio Gor just arrived Delhi settled in and this is the first thing he did!! congratulations to both of the US and India teams,” she wrote. “This is the single most important thing that could’ve come about as a first step.”

Derek J. Grossman, a senior defense analyst, also weighed in, writing on X that Trump’s new ambassador to India was “coming in hot and heavy.” He quoted Gor as saying, “No partner more essential than India,” and noted that the ambassador had announced New Delhi’s invitation to join the administration’s new Pax Silica initiative.

Gor’s early messaging and the public backing from senior U.S. officials underscore expectations in Washington that the U.S.–India relationship will remain a central pillar of American strategy in the Indo-Pacific. (Source: IANS)
