US Ambassador Welcomes India’s Entry Into Pax Silica Alliance at AI Impact Summit

NEW DELHI– India on Friday formally joined the Pax Silica declaration, a U.S.-led strategic alliance focused on resilient supply chains for critical minerals and the development of robust artificial intelligence frameworks, marking a new phase in India-U.S. technology cooperation.

Reacting to India’s inclusion in the grouping during the ongoing AI Impact Summit at Bharat Mandapam, U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor welcomed the move, calling it a milestone for bilateral ties.

“I am very happy that India has joined Pax Silica. It’s a fantastic partnership and will move forward from there,” Gor said.

Pax Silica is a strategic alliance of nations aimed at strengthening supply chains for critical and rare earth minerals while also advancing trusted models of artificial intelligence. India’s formal entry is expected to reinforce the framework, accelerate technological collaboration, and enhance the country’s ability to leverage its rare earth mineral resources.

The U.S. envoy also highlighted the development on social media, writing, “A GREAT day for our relationship. Today INDIA joins PAX SILICA!”

Following the signing of the Pax Silica Declaration, Union Minister for Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with Jacob Helberg, Sergio Gor, and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology Secretary S. Krishnan, posed for a group photograph, underscoring the deepening collaboration between India and the United States in critical technologies.

India’s inclusion in the alliance places it among a select group of countries working to build trusted semiconductor and technology supply chains, a move seen as strategically significant amid global supply chain realignments.

Ashwini Vaishnaw described the declaration as a major step forward for India’s expanding semiconductor and electronics ecosystem.

“Pax Silica is very important for semiconductor manufacturing, setting up supply chains, chip design and the entire semiconductor ecosystem. This will greatly benefit India’s electronics and semiconductor industry. Ten plants are already in the process of being established, and the first semiconductor plant will begin commercial production very soon. A complete ecosystem is emerging in India. Pax Silica will be crucial for this, and the youth of India will benefit from it,” Vaishnaw said while briefing reporters.

Current signatories to the Pax Silica alliance include Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Israel, and Australia. The United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Greece joined the declaration last month. The initiative is also widely viewed as a strategic effort to counter China’s dominance in the rare earth minerals sector. (Source: IANS)
