MUMBAI– Around 200 passengers stranded on a Mumbai Monorail near Mysore Colony station between Chembur and Bhakti Park on Tuesday evening were safely evacuated after a power supply failure brought the service to a halt, officials said.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the incident occurred at about 6:15 p.m., when a technical glitch stalled the train mid-route. Passengers immediately contacted the BMC’s emergency helpline, prompting a swift response from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, which deployed three snorkel ladder vehicles for the rescue.

Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani directed the operation, while ambulances and medical teams were stationed at the site. Municipal hospitals were placed on alert, and four to five BEST buses were dispatched to assist stranded commuters.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, in a statement on X, reassured citizens that passenger safety was the top priority. “All agencies — MMRDA, BMC, and the fire brigade — are on site, and no one should panic. All passengers will be safely evacuated,” he said, adding that an inquiry would be conducted into the cause of the disruption.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) confirmed the stoppage was caused by a “minor power supply issue” affecting one train. It said operations and maintenance teams were working to restore services, with partial movement continuing between Wadala and Chembur on a single line.

“Your safety remains our highest priority, and normal services will resume at the earliest,” MMRDA stated. (Source: IANS)
