Indian Ambassador Hosts Army Chief Ahead of Washington Meetings

NEW DELHI — India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, hosted Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi at India House on Wednesday ahead of his upcoming engagements in Washington, D.C.

The meeting comes as part of a series of high-level military exchanges between India and the United States, following recent visits by the chiefs of the Indian Navy and Air Force.

“Ambassador hosted COAS General Upendra Dwivedi, at India House today, ahead of his upcoming engagements in Washington DC. The visit, which is taking place soon after the recent visits by CNS and CAS, continues the high-level military-to-military exchanges between India and the U.S.,” the Indian Embassy said in a post on X.

“It is expected to further cement the defence ties – a cornerstone of our comprehensive global strategic partnership – towards ensuring a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific region,” the post added.

Earlier this week, General Dwivedi met with U.S. Army Pacific Commanding General Ronald P. Clark and other senior officials in Honolulu, where discussions focused on strengthening defense cooperation and advancing shared strategic priorities in the Indo-Pacific.

During his visit to Hawaii, Dwivedi was accorded a Guard of Honor at Fort Shafter and conducted an aerial tour of Oahu, gaining insights into U.S. military training and operational readiness.

“General Upendra Dwivedi, COAS, was accorded a Guard of Honor at Fort Shafter, Hawaii, during his ongoing visit to United States Army Pacific. He held discussions with General Ronald P Clark Commanding General US Army Pacific, and other senior leaders, focusing on strengthening India-US Defense Cooperation and advancing a shared vision for peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific. COAS also undertook an aerial tour of Oahu island, gaining insights into the training ecosystem and multi-domain operational readiness,” the Indian Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information said in a post on X.

The visit follows earlier defense engagements this month, including talks between the chiefs of the Indian and U.S. air forces, which focused on interoperability, training, and regional deterrence.

U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff General Kenneth Wilsbach hosted Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh for an official visit on April 8, during which the two sides reaffirmed the importance of defense cooperation in maintaining a stable Indo-Pacific region.

U.S. officials described the partnership with India as central to ensuring a “free, open, peaceful and prosperous Indo-Pacific region,” while emphasizing the role of joint exercises and collaboration in strengthening regional security. (Source: IANS)
