Mumbai– The trailer for the upcoming streaming film Songs of Paradise was released Monday, offering a glimpse into the life and enduring legacy of Kashmiri musical legend Raj Begum.
The period drama, inspired by the Padma Shri awardee’s remarkable career, stars Saba Azad and Soni Razdan, who portray Raj Begum across two eras. Directed by Danish Renzu, the film is set to premiere August 29 on Prime Video.
“Getting to play a character inspired by the legendary Raj Begum has been nothing short of a revelation,” Saba Azad said. “As a musician I pride myself on having a vast listening vocabulary, and yet I was entirely in the dark about the phenomenon that is Raj Begum. This film has led me to the incredible story of her life, her times, and her unending musical repertoire. It’s a story of female resilience and independence. I can’t wait for audiences to see Songs of Paradise on Prime Video, a story that celebrates Kashmir’s musical heritage and a woman who helped shape it.”
The film’s soundtrack, composed by Abhay Sopori and brought to life with the vocals of Masrat Un Nissa, blends Raj Begum’s musical roots with the evocative landscapes of Kashmir.
Soni Razdan, who plays the older Raj Begum, said the role deeply moved her. “Songs of Paradise is a story that touched me the moment I read the script. Stepping into her character was a profound experience, embodying decades of resilience, strength, and cultural identity. It’s a powerful narrative that honors Kashmir’s musical legacy and captures the essence of her remarkable journey.”
Written by Renzu alongside Niranjan Iyengar and Sunayana Kachroo, Songs of Paradise is produced by Apple Tree Pictures and Renzu Films, and presented by Excel Entertainment. (Source: IANS)
