Visakhapatnam–A tragic incident unfolded at Yarada Beach on Sunday when an Italian tourist drowned and another fell seriously ill after being swept away by strong sea currents.

According to police reports, a group of 16 foreign tourists were bathing at the beach when two Italian nationals ventured into deep waters and began to drown.

Rescue teams from the Port Marine Police and the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) lifeguards swiftly responded and managed to bring both individuals back to shore. However, one of them was found unresponsive and in critical condition. Despite immediate CPR efforts by rescue personnel, he could not be revived and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The deceased’s body was later shifted to King George Hospital (KGH) for postmortem examination.

The New Port Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Authorities stated that the group had ignored repeated warnings from the Marine Police and GVMC lifeguards, who had cautioned tourists against entering the sea due to dangerous currents and the depth of the waters.

Visakhapatnam’s beaches, especially on weekends, attract large numbers of domestic and international tourists. In response to ongoing safety concerns, Marine Police and municipal officials have deployed personnel across various beaches to monitor tourist activity, warn visitors of hazards, and conduct rescue operations when needed.
