LONDON– A day after the thrilling third Test match at Lord’s, members of India’s men’s and women’s cricket teams had the honor of meeting King Charles III at St. James’s Palace.

The royal reception followed a dramatic Test match where India’s men’s team fell just 22 runs short against England, who now lead the five-match series 2-1. Meanwhile, the women’s team, fresh off their historic first-ever T20I series win on English soil, is gearing up for a three-match ODI series beginning Wednesday.

Led by captain Shubman Gill, the men’s squad included vice-captain Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, and head coach Gautam Gambhir. The players, dressed in formal attire, were introduced to the British monarch in the elegant gardens of Clarence House. King Charles spent time with the cricketers, sharing light-hearted conversations and offering words of encouragement.

Despite the recent Test loss, the mood during the royal meeting was upbeat. Players welcomed the opportunity to unwind and connect with the monarch — a rare and memorable experience, particularly for younger team members meeting a reigning king for the first time.

The third Test at Lord’s was a nail-biter. Chasing a target of 193 in the final innings, India were bowled out for 170. Ravindra Jadeja led a spirited resistance with a gritty half-century, forming crucial partnerships with Nitish Reddy, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj. However, England’s Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer swung the momentum in their favor with a fierce morning spell, removing key Indian batsmen in quick succession.

In the end, off-spinner Shoaib Bashir sealed the victory for England by bowling Siraj. The closely fought match drew widespread praise from fans and cricket legends around the world for its drama and quality.

With two Tests remaining, India will look to regroup and even the series. The fourth Test is scheduled to begin July 23 at Old Trafford in Manchester. (Source: IANS)
