ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — Four people, including two Indian nationals, were injured Tuesday after debris from a missile interception fell on residential homes in southern Dubai, authorities said.

The Government of Dubai Media Office said the injuries were minor and included one Bangladeshi and one Sri Lankan national in addition to the two Indians. The incident also caused property damage in the affected area.

“Authorities confirm that the incident caused by debris from an interception that fell on houses in southern Dubai resulted in minor injuries to two Indian nationals, one Bangladeshi national, and one Sri Lankan national. The incident was handled in accordance with the highest safety standards. Please rely on official sources for updates,” the Government of Dubai Media Office said in a statement posted on X.

Earlier, officials said emergency teams were responding after debris from a “successful interception” struck residential buildings, leading to minor injuries among four Asian nationals.

The incident comes amid escalating tensions in West Asia following strikes on Iran by Israel and the United States on February 28, which reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and senior military officials. Iran has since launched drone and missile attacks targeting U.S. and Israeli facilities, as well as locations across the region.

The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Defence said its air defense systems intercepted multiple threats on Tuesday, including eight ballistic missiles, four cruise missiles, and 36 unmanned aerial vehicles launched from Iran.

Since the start of the Iranian attacks, UAE air defenses have intercepted 433 ballistic missiles, 19 cruise missiles, and 1,977 drones, according to the ministry.

“The attacks resulted in the martyrdom of 2 members of the armed forces while performing their national duty, in addition to the martyrdom of a Moroccan civilian contracted by the Armed Forces, as well as 8 fatalities of Pakistani, Nepali, Bangladeshi, Palestinian and Indian nationalities,” the ministry said in a statement on X.

“A total of 188 people were also injured, with injuries ranging from minor to moderate and severe. The injured included nationals of the UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Uganda, Eritrea, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Comoros, Türkiye, Iraq, Nepal, Nigeria, Oman, Jordan, Palestine, Ghana, Indonesia, Sweden and Tunisia,” it added.

The ministry said it remains prepared to address ongoing threats and will take all necessary measures to protect the country’s sovereignty, security, and stability. (Source: IANS)
