Adani Group named official partner for UNESCO’s World Engineering Day 2026

Ahmedabad, India — The Adani Group has been named the official partner for World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development (WED) 2026, an international observance established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and delivered by the World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO).

The announcement marks the first time an Indian organization has been selected by the WFEO as a partner to recognize the work of engineers worldwide during the annual observance.

The infrastructure conglomerate said the partnership highlights its role in advancing the clean energy transition and its efforts to provide clean, reliable and affordable power at large scale while strengthening India’s energy security and supporting global sustainability targets, including Sustainable Development Goal 7.

“We are demonstrating that clean energy can be large-scale yet affordable, powerful yet inclusive. This is India’s contribution to the world — a model where progress and sustainability move forward together. Our Khavda renewable energy plant stands as an emblem of India’s climate action. It reflects the collective strength of Adani Green Energy, Adani Energy Solutions, and Adani New Industries working in unison to advance an integrated renewable future,” said Sagar Adani, Executive Director of Adani Green Energy.

World Engineering Day 2026 will be held under the theme “Smart engineering for a sustainable future through innovation and digitalisation,” focusing on how advanced engineering solutions and digital technologies can support sustainable development.

Adani Group said its work across renewable energy projects, digital infrastructure, and large-scale transport and utility systems aligns with that vision, demonstrating how technology-driven engineering can contribute to real-world sustainability solutions.

A central example highlighted under the program is the Khavda renewable energy project in Gujarat. The project is expected to reach a total planned capacity of 30 gigawatts by 2029 and has been featured by the WFEO as a key example of India’s transition toward cleaner energy systems. A short film produced for the initiative highlights the scale and ambition of the development.

Spanning roughly 538 square kilometers — about five times the size of Paris and nearly as large as the city of Mumbai — the facility is expected to become the world’s largest power plant across all energy sources once completed.

Adani Green Energy Ltd. has already operationalized more than 7 gigawatts of renewable capacity at the site and plans to complete the full 30-gigawatt project by 2029. (Source: IANS)
