Indian Envoy Meets Bipartisan U.S. Senators, Advances Talks on Defense and Trade

WASHINGTON, D.C. — India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, hosted a bipartisan group of U.S. Senators in Washington, engaging in a series of discussions aimed at strengthening the India–U.S. partnership across energy, defense, and trade.

The gathering at India House brought together Republican Senators Lindsey Graham, Dan Sullivan, and Markwayne Mullin, along with Democratic Senators Peter Welch, Richard Blumenthal, and Sheldon Whitehouse.

Kwatra shared details of the meeting on X, writing, “Honored to host Senators Lindsey Graham, Richard Blumenthal, Sheldon Whitehouse, Peter Welch, Dan Sullivan and Markwayne Mullin this evening at the India House. Had fruitful conversations on the India-U.S. partnership, from energy and defense cooperation to trade and important global developments. Grateful for their support for a stronger India-U.S. relationship.”

In a separate engagement, the Ambassador met with General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to discuss expanding defense cooperation and reviewing regional issues of shared strategic interest.

“Had a pleasant meeting with General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. We had an engaging conversation about our bilateral defense cooperation and regional issues of mutual interest,” Kwatra said in another post on X.

Kwatra has held several high-level meetings in recent days. Last week, he spoke with Jacob Helberg, the newly appointed U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs, in a conversation focused on advancing economic ties.

“Congratulated U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Jacob Helberg on assuming his responsibilities. Had a wide-ranging conversation on our bilateral economic engagement agenda, including a mutually beneficial trade deal, strategic trade dialogue, and technology cooperation, including AI,” Kwatra posted.

On November 24, the Ambassador met U.S. Representative Jay Obernolte and highlighted expanding opportunities for collaboration in science, technology, innovation, and artificial intelligence.

“Enjoyed my conversation with Rep. Jay Obernolte, Chair of the House Science, Space, and Technology Research and Technology Subcommittee. Highlighted opportunities for stronger U.S.-India cooperation in science, tech, AI and innovation,” he wrote. (Source: IANS)
