MUMBAI– Renowned singer Kailash Kher has responded to the recent shooting incident at comedian Kapil Sharma’s restaurant in Surrey, Canada, saying he was not yet fully informed but would speak on the matter once he had more details.

When asked for his reaction to the attack, Kher told IANS, “I’m not aware of that incident yet. Once I know more, I’ll speak.”

Security has been tightened outside Kapil Sharma’s residence in Mumbai following the shooting, which occurred at his newly launched restaurant, Kap’s Cafe, in Canada. On July 11, Mumbai Police were seen visiting Sharma’s home in the Oshiwara area, a precautionary measure prompted by the alarming incident.

The shooting took place around 2:00 a.m. local time on July 10 in the 8400 block of 120th Street in Surrey. According to reports, Harjit Singh, a member of the banned terror group Babbar Khalsa, opened fire on the cafe, discharging nine rounds before later claiming responsibility. The attack is reportedly linked to alleged remarks made on Sharma’s comedy show regarding the attire of Nihang Sikhs.

In the aftermath, Kap’s Cafe released a statement on Instagram, expressing shock and sadness. “We opened Kap’s Cafe with hopes of bringing warmth, community, and joy through delicious coffee and friendly conversation. To have violence intersect with that dream is heartbreaking. We are processing this shock, but we are not giving up,” the statement read.

The post continued: “Thank you for your support. Your kind words, prayers, and memories shared via DM mean more than you know. This cafe exists because of your belief in what we’re building together. Let’s stand firm against violence and ensure Kap’s Cafe remains a place of warmth and community.”
