Women’s Role in Governance to Expand with Reservation Law

MP Chief Minister says Women’s Reservation Act will strengthen democracy and inclusive policymaking

IndoreMohan Yadav on Tuesday said the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam will significantly enhance women’s participation in governance and policymaking, calling it a transformative step for India’s democratic framework.

Addressing the Nari Shakti Vandan Conference at the Lata Mangeshkar Auditorium, Yadav described the legislation as one of the most consequential decisions taken under the leadership of Narendra Modi.

“The Act will ensure women have a stronger voice in governance and policymaking,” he said, adding that it reflects a broader commitment to empowering women and strengthening democratic institutions.

The law provides for 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies, a move aimed at making decision-making more inclusive and representative.

Yadav said increased political participation by women would not only empower them but also contribute to building a stronger and more balanced democracy. He linked the initiative to India’s long-term development goals, stating that greater representation of women will play a key role in achieving the vision of a developed nation by 2047.

Invoking the ideals of B. R. Ambedkar, the Chief Minister said the legislation advances the principles of equality and equal opportunity.

The event saw participation from women across sectors, including self-help groups, entrepreneurs, and social leaders, with exhibitions showcasing products made by women-led enterprises.

Malini Gaur, who also addressed the gathering, said the Act would mark a turning point by ensuring women are not just beneficiaries but active contributors to governance and decision-making. (Source: IANS)
