US Envoy Sergio Gor Launches ‘Freedom250’ Celebrations in New Delhi with Unique Public Campaign

Auto-rickshaw initiative highlights US-India ties ahead of America’s 250th Independence anniversary

New DelhiSergio Gor has launched the ‘Freedom250’ celebrations in New Delhi, marking the beginning of a series of events leading up to the 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026.

The campaign kicked off with a distinctive public outreach initiative featuring auto-rickshaws decorated with images of Donald Trump and iconic American symbols. The vehicles are set to travel across the capital before expanding to other cities, bringing the milestone celebration directly to the public.

“Thrilled to kick off the #Freedom250 celebrations from New Delhi,” Gor said in a post, adding that the initiative not only marks America’s 250th anniversary but also celebrates the strength of the US-India partnership.

The Freedom250 initiative—also known as America250—commemorates the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Celebrations across the United States include large-scale public events, educational programs, and cultural showcases.

In India, the campaign adopts a localized approach by using auto-rickshaws—an everyday feature of urban life—as mobile displays of American heritage and symbolism. Officials say the effort is designed to engage citizens and foster greater awareness of shared democratic values.

Ambassador Gor, who presented his credentials to Droupadi Murmu earlier this year, has emphasized strengthening bilateral cooperation across defense, trade, technology, and security.

The initiative comes amid deepening ties between Washington and New Delhi, with both countries collaborating on areas such as supply chains, artificial intelligence, and regional stability. The US-India relationship is widely seen as a key strategic partnership in the 21st century.

Officials indicated that additional events and outreach programs will roll out across India in the coming months as part of the broader Freedom250 campaign, aimed at celebrating shared values of freedom, innovation, and collaboration. (Source: IANS)
