Karisma Kapoor Shares Lesser-Known Facts About Babita’s Iconic Songs ‘Aao Huzoor Tumko’ and ‘Kajra Mohabbat Wala’
Mumbai— Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor recently revisited some of her mother Babita Kapoor’s most iconic songs, sharing interesting behind-the-scenes trivia about the timeless classics Aao Huzoor Tumko and Kajra Mohabbat Wala.
Speaking about the tracks, Karisma revealed that Aao Huzoor Tumko required Babita to portray an intoxicated character on screen—something that was considered bold and challenging at the time. Depictions of intoxication, especially involving women, were often viewed as socially inappropriate in that era, making the performance particularly unconventional.
In contrast, Kajra Mohabbat Wala stood out for its unique and experimental approach. Karisma shared that Babita appeared in a male disguise in the song, a concept that was rare and ahead of its time in the 1960s, showcasing her willingness to take creative risks.
Karisma also highlighted the enduring popularity of Aao Huzoor Tumko, noting that the song has been recreated and remixed multiple times over the years. She added that it continues to resonate with audiences across generations, reflecting its lasting appeal.
Reflecting on her mother’s career, Karisma pointed out that Babita’s time in the Hindi film industry spanned only about seven years, yet she delivered a string of successful films during that period. She worked alongside several legendary actors, including Rajesh Khanna, Jeetendra, Manoj Kumar, and Dharmendra, as well as members of the Kapoor family such as Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor.
Following Kapoor family traditions at the time, which discouraged women from pursuing professional careers in the film industry, Babita stepped away from acting after marrying Randhir Kapoor.
The couple are parents to Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan, both of whom went on to establish successful careers in Bollywood and are counted among the industry’s leading actresses today.
