Rajinikanth Shares Big Update on ‘Jailer 2’, Says Film in Final Stages
Chennai— Superstar Rajinikanth on Saturday shared a major update on his highly anticipated action entertainer Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar.
Speaking to reporters at the airport, Rajinikanth revealed that the film is nearing completion. “The film (Jailer 2) is in its finishing stage. The production house will announce its date of release,” he said.
When asked about the upcoming elections, the veteran actor chose not to comment and responded with a smile. However, he did confirm that his much-talked-about project with Kamal Haasan is expected to begin in August.
The sequel to the blockbuster Jailer has generated massive buzz among fans and industry watchers. The first installment was a major commercial success, reportedly grossing over ₹650 crore worldwide.
Jailer also recorded a stellar opening, with overseas distributor Ayngaran International confirming a first-day collection of ₹33 crore—marking the highest opening of Rajinikanth’s career.
According to sources, Jailer 2 is shaping up on similar lines, promising a blend of high-octane action and entertainment.
The film’s production began in Chennai, with Sun Pictures announcing the start of shooting on March 10 last year. Anticipation further surged after the release of a teaser that struck a balance between humor and action.
The film also drew attention when Ramya Krishnan shared a nostalgic moment from the sets, marking “26 years of Padayappa and the first day shoot of Jailer 2.” She reprises her role as Vijaya Pandian, also known as Viji, the wife of Rajinikanth’s character Muthuvel Pandian.
Actress Mirnaa is also expected to play a key role as Swetha Pandian, the protagonist’s daughter-in-law. The film reportedly features appearances by Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi, adding to the excitement surrounding the sequel.
Music for the film is being composed by Anirudh Ravichander, whose soundtrack played a crucial role in the success of the first installment.
