Hit by a drunk driver, 39-year-old Kailash Bolar dies at the scene; friends raise funds for wife and six-year-old daughter

ATTLEBORO, MA—Thirty-nine-year-old Kailash Bolar, who took a cab at Boston’s Logan International Airport to return home, was hit by a drunk driver and died on the scene on Saturday. He is survived by his wife Asha and his 6 year old daughter Krisha.  His friends have launched a fundraising campaign and had already raised over $100,000 by Tuesday evening.

Michael Spinale, a Massachusetts man accused of driving drunk and causing the fatal crash in Attleboro, MA, went before a judge on Monday and released on $10,000 bail, according to news reports.

“Police say Michael Spinale was under the influence and speeding on I-95 south early Saturday morning when he struck a taxi from behind,” WPRI Channel 12 Eyewitness News reported. “According to the police report obtained by Eyewitness News, a man called Massachusetts State Police at about 1 a.m. and reported that he was run off the roadway by another car traveling in excess of 100 mph.”

Eyewitness News said that a responding trooper reported that he arrived to find a Kia Cadenza embedded in the back end of a Toyota Camry, which was significantly crushed inward, and Attleboro firefighters were attempting to free an entrapped passenger from the back of the Camry. Police said the passenger, later identified as Bolar of East Greenwich, RI., was pronounced dead at the scene.

The taxi driver told police he had picked Bolar up at Logan Airport in Boston and was transporting him home when his vehicle was struck from behind in the center lane. The driver was evaluated on scene and transported to Rhode Island Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening neck and back injuries, according to state police, reported Eyewitness News.

Spinale, 41, of Roslindale, was charged with vehicular homicide, OUI, and assault with a dangerous weapon, along with several driving violations. Spinale posted $10,000 bail over the weekend and remains free on the conditions he undergoes daily alcohol testing and doesn’t drive, according to Eyewitness News.

“A mile wide smile. That is what I remember when I think of Kailash. My friend and a colleague. A true example of the best mankind has to offer. A kind hearted man, who loved life; a person who saw the best in everyone, the humor in every situation and an opportunity in every setback,” his friend posted on the GoFundMe page. “I cannot express in words the pain and trauma they are going through right now. As with most families who come to this land of opportunities, Kailash had no immediate family here. And it is up to all of us to ensure that Krisha’s future is secured. And that means helping Asha get the financial support that is needed to carry on with their life in these hard times.”

He said that  we cannot bring him back, but we can all stay true to his friendship by securing Krisha and Asha a comfortable setting to cherish their memories without worrying about the financial consequences for the immediate future.

“We need the funds soon while friends and colleagues are working to ensure Asha and Krisha can atleast be in the country and pursue the future Kailash would have wanted for them,” he said in the post. “For everyone who did not know Kailash, I would urge you to donate as if you were doing this for my daughter. We need to demonstrate that good deeds do bring you back good karma. We need to prove we are humans, That we care for the fellow earthling. I can guarantee you that Kailash would have walked the extra mile for you if you were a stranger to him. He would have told you a joke or two and reinforced your faith in humanity.”
