Anirudh Ravichander to Compose Music for M.S. Subbulakshmi Biopic Starring Rashmika Mandanna

Chennai — Rashmika Mandanna will portray legendary Carnatic vocalist and Bharat Ratna recipient M.S. Subbulakshmi in an upcoming biopic that will be officially launched Wednesday at the Music Academy in Chennai during celebrations marking the singer’s 110th birth anniversary.

Geetha Arts, one of the production houses behind the film, also confirmed that Anirudh Ravichander will compose the music. The biopic will be directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri.

Actor, producer and parliamentarian Kamal Haasan will serve as the chief guest at the launch event, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Announcing the project on social media, Geetha Arts wrote, “A LEGACY begins with an unforgettable celebration. Witness the grand launch of #MS – A Legacy On Screen, celebrating Bharat Ratna #MSSubbulakshmi Amma’s 110th Birth Anniversary with Ulaganayagan @ikamalhaasan garu as the Chief Guest.”

The production house also confirmed Mandanna as the lead, Tinnanuri as director and Ravichander as music composer.

The film will be produced by Geetha Arts, Rockline Entertainment and Bunny Vas Works.

The project has drawn significant attention since reports about the biopic first emerged several months ago. Earlier reports had suggested that multiple actresses were considered for the role before Mandanna was selected.

Madurai Shanmukhavadivu Subbulakshmi, widely known as M.S. Subbulakshmi, was one of India’s most celebrated Carnatic vocalists and was renowned for her contributions to classical and devotional music.

She also appeared in several films and received numerous honors during her career. Subbulakshmi became the first musician to receive the Bharat Ratna and was also the first Indian musician to perform at the United Nations General Assembly in 1966. (Source: IANS)
