WESTON, MA–The Boston Chapter of All India Mission (AIM) for Seva announced that Rukmini Vijayakumar returns this year with a new production ABHIMATA: The Beloved, which explores the theme of love in union and separation through stories from the Bhagavatam, the Ramayana and the Puranas.

In the Indian traditions, longing for the beloved is a representation of the longing to know our real Self. Rukmini, an acclaimed Bharata Natyam dancer who has also trained in Western dance in the Boston area, will bring this deep symbolism to life in her solo performance of Abhimata.

This year’s fundraising celebration dance and dinner program will be held on 11th November at 5:30 pm at Regis College Theater in Weston, MA.

Established in 2000 by renowned Vedanta teacher Pujya Swamiji Dayananda Saraswati, AIM for Seva pioneered the concept of Free Student Homes (FSH), which provide rural and tribal Indian children boarding, lodging, health care, and extra- curricular resources to enable them to complete high school. These homes, spread across 100 locations in 16 Indian states, have helped educate 35,000 children so far. AIM for Seva was chosen for the 20th All India Mahaveer Awards in the Education category this year, topping the list of nominees with its exceptional service through value-based education to rural students.

“We are delighted this year to present to the donor community AIM for Seva’s first sponsored student, Sheetal Pundir, currently a postdoctoral fellow in Pharmacology at McGill University. Sheetal was forced to drop out of school after the untimely death of her father,” the organizers said in a statement. “With timely financial support from AIM for Seva, she re-enrolled in school, got an undergraduate degree in microbiology, won a gold medal and scholarships for higher studies, and got a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Ottawa, where she worked on drug discovery and patented novel anti-cancer drugs. She is also an avid public speaker, having won various debates and speech competitions in both Hindi and English.”

The Boston chapter of AIM for Seva has raised over $400,000 since 2013 to support this worthy cause, including to build and operate FSHs in four different states.

“Our goal for this year’s fund raising is to support 300 students. We appeal to Boston area philanthropists and dance lovers to sponsor one or more underprivileged children, as a way of expressing gratitude for all the benefits we and our own children have gained because of our education,” the statements aid. “The sponsorship is $ 450 per year to cover all expenses for one student. AIM for Seva is a registered 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization and your donations are tax-deductible. Sponsors will be given complimentary family passes for Abhimata, followed by a vegetarian Indian dinner after the dance.”
