Business of adult comedies has evolved: Milap Zaveri
New Delhi–Director-writer Milap Zaveri, currently awaiting the release of his forthcoming sex comedy movie “Mastizaade”, says the business of adult comedy films has evolved. Zaveri, who has written adult comedy films like “Masti” and “Grand Masti”, told IANS: “We have started pushing the envelope a little bit more. What really has evolved, is the business of these films. Right from ‘Masti’ to ‘Grand Masti’, it’s been a great graph… it has risen and more people have accepted (such films).”
The director thinks that it is “coming-of-age of adult comedies”. “For ‘Mastizaade’, the entire industry tweeted the promo and they supported it… which I think is actually the coming-of-age of adult comedies. There are stars, who don’t do these kind of films, but actually are supporting these films,” he added.
Asked if he would like to venture into other genres as well, Zaveri said: “I would love to explore other genres. The next film I’m doing is called ‘Mubarakan’. It’s a comedy, but not an adult comedy. But if you ask me I would love to direct a film like ‘Ek Villain’. Of all the films that I have written, it’s one of the closest to my heart.” Zaveri’s directorial, which is slated to hit the screens on January 29, also stars Sunny Leone, Vir Das and Tusshar Kapoor.
Vicky, Shyam Kaushal got emotional after shooting for ‘Zubaan’
Mumbai–‘Masaan’ actor Vicky Kaushal and his father and noted action director Shyam Kaushal turned emotional after shooting action scenes for the film ‘Zubaan’ together. “This film has action sequences, and fortunately my father has choreographed it. I wouldn’t forget the evening when I got the opportunity to work with my father, it was always my dream to do it. It was very special but professional. But as soon as the sequence got over, we both got very emotional, that we finally shot together as an actor-director duo.”
“So it was very special and I thank ‘Zubaan’ to have given me this opportunity,” said Vicky at a Mumbai college where he spoke about how college festivals brought back memories of his college days, which were very pure and energetic for him. Film’s lead actress Sarah-Jane Dias performed to songs from the film along with the ‘Zubaan’ band.
Vicky plays an ambitious character in ‘Zubaan’, switching between the corporate life and his passion for music. About one of the lines of the film which says that he wants to achieve everything, he replied, that goes with the story, it is not Vicky Kaushal’s, it’s the character Dilsher who’s saying those lines.”
“I think every person in this world is always hungry and Vicky Kaushal, too, will always be hungry.” ‘Zubaan’ directed by Mozez Singh is releasing on March 4.
Kiku Sharda ‘proud’ of entertainment industry
Mumbai-Actor Kiku Sharda, who was earlier arrested for lampooning a religious leader, has thanked the entertainment industry for supporting him. He says he is “proud of the industry”. Kiku, best known for playing Palak on TV show “Comedy Nights with Kapil”, was arrested from the set of the comedy show on January 13, after a complaint filed by Dera Sacha Sauda sect follower Uday Singh.
He was accused of dressing up like Gurmeet Ram Rahim and mimicking the self-proclaimed godman in the show “Jashn-E-Ummeed”. His arrest was strongly condemned by various Bollywood celebrities like Rishi Kapoor, Anurag Kashyap, Sonakshi Sinha, Twinkle Khanna, Huma Qureshi, Vir Das and Boman Irani.
“Thanks everyone for standing by me through this traumatic time. Means a lot. Thanks to my fraternity, am proud of the industry I’m in,” Kiku tweeted on Saturday.
Classic films our legacy, treasure: Boman Irani
New Delhi–Actor Boman Irani, who will host a festival celebrating the life and work of legendary filmmaker Bimal Roy on television, says classic films are “our legacy, our treasure”. Commemorating the 50th death anniversary of Roy, Zee Classic will celebrate his life and work, with the “Bimal Roy Festival presented by Boman Irani”.
“Classic films are our legacy, our treasure. Those who don’t want to see them, so be it. But the few that will see them will get influenced by them. Even if a few get influenced, they will realise that they are watching something that they have missed out, that they are deprived of,” Boman told IANS. “Children of my generation had the opportunity to watch good, classic films regularly, but we don’t get to see the stuff now. Now we have 180 channels and still we are unable to screen or telecast one single classic film,” he rued.
Boman shared that one of the first classic films he saw was Roy’s movie “Do Bigha Zamin”, which released in 1953. “It was completely a different kind of cinema, had a statement with the story line, about the industrialisation of the country, the plight of the farmers and issues that are even more relevant today,” said the “Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.” actor.
The festival, co-powered by State Bank of India, will air every Saturday starting from February 6 with “Do Bigha Zamin”.
Lata Mangeshkar pays tribute to Netaji
Mumbai–Melody queen Lata Mangeshkar on Saturday paid tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, who raised an army to fight the British and whose death in an air crash continues to be a mystery even after seven decades, on his birth anniversary. “Today (Saturday) is freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Boseji’s 119th birth anniversary. I pay respect to his great majesty,” Lata posted on Twitter.
A former Congress president and once a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi, Bose’s reported death in a plane crash in Formosa, now Taiwan, in 1945 has remained a mystery. He was born on January 23, 1897 in Cuttack, Odisha. Apart from Lata, veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai and actress Gul Panag also paid tributes to Bose on the micro-blogging site. Ghai tweeted: “My mother told me that my maternal grandfather – big fan of Subhash Chandra Bose – kept my name Subhash because I was born on January 24 morning. Since then I have been his fan too.”
Gul wrote: “Happy birthday Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. May your ideals continue to inspire yet more generations to come. Salute! #JaiHind.”
Priyanka Chopra proud of ‘Jai Gangaajal’
Actress Priyanka Chopra, who will be seen as a police officer in the forthcoming film “Jai Gangaajal”, has thanked filmmaker Prakash Jha for giving her a chance to be a part of the action drama, which she feels “proud” of. Priyanka, who is currently in Montreal, took to Twitter on Saturday to talk about “Jai Gangaajal”.
“Thank you @prakashjha27 for the support! Can’t wait to share #JaiGangaajal with the world. A film I’m proud of! Thank you for fighting to tell this story,” Priyanka tweeted. “Jai Gangaajal”, a sequel to the 2003 film “Gangaajal”, will also feature Jha, Manav Kaul and Rahul Bhat.
The film will release on March 4.
‘Airlift’ showcases Akshay Kumar’s career best portrayal: KJo
Filmmaker Karan Johar has lauded Akshay Kumar’s new film “Airlift” calling it the actor’s “career best portrayal”. Directed by Raja Krishna Menon, “Airlift” — based on the evacuation of Indians from Kuwait during the 1990 Iraq-Kuwait war — released on Friday.
“#airlift is a heartwarming film about the triumph of the human spirit!! @akshaykumar in his career best portrayal was the soul of the film,” Karan posted on Twitter on late Friday. “So proud of my friends @madhubhojwani @monishaadvani @nikkhiladvani for making this special film! @niluferq for all her hard work! #airlift,” Karan added.

Airlift’ mints Rs.12.35 crore on opening day
Mumbai–Action star Akshay Kumar’s latest film “Airlift”, which revolves around the evacuation of Indians from Kuwait during the 1990 Iraq-Kuwait war, earned over Rs.12 crore at the ticket window on its opening day.
Directed by Raja Krishna Menon, the film collected Rs.12.35 crore on Friday, read a statement. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film has received an “impressive” start at the box office and the business might rise towards the weekend.
“#Airlift has an impressive day one. Friday Rs.12.35 crore. India biz. Exceptional word of mouth. Biz should multiply over the weekend,” Adarsh posted on Twitter on Saturday. The film tells how the Indian government evacuated 1,70,000 people through 488 flights during the Iraq-Kuwait war.
“Airlift” also stars Nimrat Kaur, Feryna Wazheir and Purab Kohli.
