‘Mahaprabhu Jagannath’ to Bring Lord Jagannath’s Divine World to Big Screen on Raksha Bandhan

ELE Animations’ first theatrical feature from its Sanatan Universe will release across India on August 28 in Hindi, Odia and Telugu

MUMBAI, Aug 21 (IANS) — The animated feature film “Mahaprabhu Jagannath” is set to bring the spiritual world of Lord Jagannath to the big screen on August 28, with its theatrical release coinciding with the auspicious occasions of Raksha Bandhan and Balaram Jayanti.

The makers announced the release date on Friday, describing the festive period as a fitting moment for the film’s theatrical debut.

Durga Prasad Dalai, producer of Mahaprabhu Jagannath, said the release had taken on special significance after the journey of making the film.

“There are certain moments that feel like they have been decided for you. After everything this film has gone through, to finally see Mahaprabhu Jagannath reaching theatres on Raksha Bandhan and Balaram Jayanti feels like his blessing,” Dalai said in a statement.

He said the film was conceived as an opportunity for children and families to experience the world of Mahaprabhu Jagannath together.

“Balaram Jayanti is a deeply significant occasion. We have always wanted to make a film that allows children and families to experience the world of Mahaprabhu Jagannath together, and there could not be a more beautiful time for that journey to begin,” he said.

“We have done our part with complete faith and sincerity, and now we leave the film in Mahaprabhu’s hands,” Dalai added.

Balaram Jayanti marks the birth anniversary of Lord Balaram, the elder brother of Lord Krishna, and is observed on the full moon day of Shravan. The festival holds deep religious and cultural significance, particularly within traditions associated with Lord Jagannath.

The film’s release during the festive period is therefore expected to add a spiritual dimension to its theatrical debut.

Produced by ELE Animations, Mahaprabhu Jagannath marks the studio’s first theatrical feature from its Sanatan Universe.

The film’s soundtrack has been released in Hindi, Odia and Telugu, with voices including Atharva Bakshi, Aviral Kumar and Abhay Jodhpurkar.

The film’s trailer was unveiled by Pujya Shri Indresh Ji Upadhyaya Maharaj during his Bhagwat Katha in Cuttack, Odisha, in the presence of more than 10,000 devotees.

The animated feature aims to introduce younger audiences and families to the spiritual and cultural world surrounding Mahaprabhu Jagannath through a theatrical format.
