Salman Khan Faces Backlash Over ‘Teri Sexy Beauty’ Song From Galwan Valley Film ‘Maatrubhumi’

MUMBAI–Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is facing criticism on social media following the release of his new song, “Teri Sexy Beauty,” from the upcoming patriotic film “Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace,” with some viewers questioning whether the romantic dance number is appropriate for a movie inspired by the deadly 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops.
The song, released early November 4, marks Khan’s return to playback singing after 11 years. However, its lyrics, playful tone and romantic visuals have sparked mixed reactions, with several social media users accusing the filmmakers of undermining the seriousness of the movie’s military subject matter.
Featuring Khan alongside actress Chitrangda Singh, the track includes vocals by Khan and Muskaan, with additional singing by Sajid Khan.
The music video shows Singh wearing a red sari as she dances with Khan in a series of romantic and flirtatious scenes. The visuals also feature the couple enjoying drinks together.
Khan promoted the release on social media with a playful message referring to the song’s lyrics.
“Departure time 5:12 am…. Flight on time , 2 pegs down taking off with my sexy beauty… pata nahi kahaan mai land karoon #TeriSexyBeauty Out Now”
While the announcement drew attention from his fans, the song quickly became the subject of online criticism.
Several viewers questioned the decision to include a lighthearted romantic number in a film based on a military confrontation that resulted in the deaths of 20 Indian Army personnel.
The lyrics, which reference drinking alcohol and becoming an airplane, were particularly criticized by users who argued that the song’s tone was inconsistent with the film’s patriotic themes.
One social media user accused the filmmakers of showing insufficient sensitivity toward the soldiers who died in the Galwan Valley confrontation.
“A film based on Col. Santosh Babu & 19 soldiers beaten to death in Galwan and Salman’s tribute is ‘Teri sexy beauty ka fan ho gaya hu, 2 peg peeke talli ho gaya hu.’ How can anyone even think of putting a song like this in a patriotic film. He has zero respect for real martyrs.”
Another user expressed frustration with the lyrics and the portrayal of a character inspired by a military officer.
“Real story pe based patriotic movie me ye sab kya lyrics hai gende. Ek national hero ke character ko kiya bana diya.”
Other social media users questioned the film’s creative direction, suggesting that changes to its title and musical presentation had altered expectations for a serious military drama.
The criticism extended to Khan’s singing performance, with some users mocking the song’s writing and questioning the actor’s recent creative choices.
One commenter dismissed the track as having “ChatGPT lyrics”, while another wrote, “Salmon bhai ruining his own legacy…..”
Another user went further, suggesting that Khan should consider stepping away from acting if he could no longer maintain the standards associated with his earlier career.
“Salman Khan, if you don’t want to work properly like you did before 2016, just retire. Please, don’t destroy what’s left of your reputation! Don’t you see, notice, or listen to what you’re actually doing?”
A separate commenter sarcastically told the actor, “Bhai. Aap ab bas udd hi jaao,” referring to the airplane imagery used in the song.
Despite the negative reactions, Khan also received support from fans who welcomed his return to singing and praised the track’s upbeat sound.
Some defended the song as an entertaining Bollywood number and expressed enthusiasm about seeing Khan perform alongside Singh.
The controversy comes as “Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace,” previously titled “Battle of Galwan,” prepares to bring a sensitive chapter of India’s recent military history to the big screen.
The film draws inspiration from the June 2020 confrontation in the Galwan Valley, a disputed border region where Indian and Chinese troops engaged in a deadly clash.
Twenty Indian soldiers, including Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu, lost their lives during the confrontation.
Khan portrays an Indian Army officer in the film, while Singh plays his wife.
The movie’s connection to the Galwan Valley incident has heightened expectations among some viewers that the production will handle its military themes and the sacrifices of Indian soldiers with sensitivity.
The release of “Teri Sexy Beauty” has consequently intensified debate over the balance between commercial Bollywood entertainment and the portrayal of real-life military events.
While the song has attracted criticism from some social media users, it has also generated attention for Khan’s return to playback singing and his upcoming film.
The filmmakers have not been reported as responding to the criticism surrounding the song. (Source: IANS)
