Himesh Reshammiya Recalls Working With Karisma Kapoor on His First Film as Solo Music Composer

MUMBAI–Indian singer and music composer Himesh Reshammiya took a trip down memory lane during an appearance on the singing reality show “Indian Idol Legends Return,” recalling his early career and his experience composing music for the 2000 Bollywood film “Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge,” starring Karisma Kapoor.
Reshammiya, who returned as a judge for the latest season of the singing competition, reflected on the significance of the romantic comedy, which marked his debut as a solo music composer.
The film, featuring Salman Khan and Karisma Kapoor in the lead roles, represented an important milestone in Reshammiya’s career as he began establishing himself in the Hindi film industry.
Speaking about the experience, Reshammiya expressed his excitement while recalling the opportunity to compose music for a film featuring Kapoor.
“Main aap logo ko bata dena chahta hoon, woh baat jo aap log soch bhi nahi sakte ki mere sath hui hai. Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge, meri first film hai as a solo composer… aur usme thi Karisma Kapoor…” he said.
Translated into English, Reshammiya told the audience that he wanted to share something they might find surprising: “Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge” was his first film as a solo composer, and Karisma Kapoor was part of it.
The singer also complimented Kapoor on her appearance, telling the actress that she looked much the same as she did during their earlier association.
“You are looking the same… aapka ek bahut favorite gaana hai, Pardesi-Pardesi ka ek line mein zaroor gaunga..” Reshammiya said.
He then performed a few lines from “Pardesi Pardesi,” the popular song featured in the 1996 film “Raja Hindustani,” which starred Kapoor alongside Aamir Khan.
The moment brought back memories of Kapoor’s successful film career during the 1990s and early 2000s, a period when she appeared in several commercially successful Bollywood productions.
Reshammiya’s recollection also highlighted his own journey from an emerging composer to one of the Hindi film industry’s recognizable musical personalities.
Meanwhile, Reshammiya has returned to the judging panel of “Indian Idol Legends Return,” which premiered on October 17 on Sony Entertainment Television.
Aditya Narayan serves as host of the latest season, which features a revised competition format bringing back former contestants from previous editions of the singing reality show.
A total of 24 returning contestants are competing in pairs, forming 12 duos as they seek another opportunity to showcase their musical abilities.
The format is designed to bring together familiar voices from the show’s history while introducing new competitive challenges.
Discussing the season, Reshammiya said the revised structure would encourage contestants to demonstrate their growth as performers.
“With a new competitive format, every performance becomes an opportunity to push boundaries, win hearts and prove their mettle once more,” he said in a statement.
“This season is not just about celebrating the voices that have shaped Indian Idol’s legacy, but also about witnessing their determination to win and their ability to surprise us all over again.”
“Indian Idol Legends Return” airs on Sony Entertainment Television and is also available for streaming on Sony LIV. (Source: IANS)
