World Leaders Praise Modi as He Becomes India’s Longest-Serving Elected Prime Minister

Brussels — World leaders congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday after he became India’s longest-serving elected prime minister, praising his leadership, public service and role in strengthening India’s global standing.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen congratulated Modi and said India had made major advances under his leadership.

“Dear Narendra Modi, today you’re becoming the longest-serving Prime Minister India has had. Congratulations! With you, India not only landed on the moon, it is shooting for the stars. And so is our EU-India friendship,” von der Leyen posted on X.

“From our cooperation on technology, mobility, security and defence all the way to the mother of all trade deals. Thank you for all that we have achieved together,” she added.

Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides also congratulated Modi, saying the milestone reflected years of service and leadership. He said Cyprus remained committed to strengthening ties with India.

“Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming the longest-serving Prime Minister in India’s history. This remarkable milestone reflects years of dedicated service and leadership. Cyprus values its strategic partnership with India and is committed to further deepening our cooperation for the benefit of our peoples,” Christodoulides wrote on X.

Denmark Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen also extended her congratulations and said she looked forward to continuing cooperation with India.

“Congratulations on the distinction of the longest uninterrupted service as democratically elected PM of India Narendra Modi. I look forward to continuing working with you and to further strengthening and expanding our partnership to new areas,” the Danish prime minister’s office posted on X.

Former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott praised Modi’s leadership, saying India had improved in infrastructure, technology, power access and sanitation under his government.

“Congratulations to Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest serving PM. He hasn’t just held office, he’s dramatically improved his country, with more infrastructure, better IT, and practical things like power and sanitation extended to remote villages,” Abbott posted on X.

“Under Modi, India has become the world’s third superpower while maintaining free elections, a riotously free media and a robustly independent judiciary. But for him, and the late Shinzo Abe, there would be no Quad so the entire free world owes him a debt of gratitude,” he added.

Former Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison called Modi a “true statesman” and credited him with transforming India’s economy and global standing.

“Warm congratulations to PM Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister. A true statesman who has transformed India’s economy and standing in the world. Proud of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership we built together. Congrats my friend,” Morrison wrote on X.

Argentina’s Ambassador to India Mariano Caucino also congratulated Modi, saying India had achieved significant economic modernization under his leadership. He also recalled Modi’s visit to Argentina in 2025.

“Congratulations to Shri Narendra Modi for being the longest serving elected Indian Prime Minister, under whose leadership India has achieved remarkable success in the modernization of its economy, and who has positioned his country in a place of primacy according to its scale and civilizational trajectory. Grateful to your historic visit to Argentina last year, during which important bilateral talks where held with President Javier Milei,” Caucino posted on X. (Source: IANS)
