Mumbai– The investigation into the accidental death of iconic singer-composer Zubeen Garg has intensified, with five of the seven accused now remanded to two weeks of judicial custody.

According to reports, the accused — Shyamkanu Mahanta, Siddharth Sharma, Sandipan Garg, Paresh Baishya, and Nandeswar Bora — were sent to judicial custody following the expiry of their police remand by the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Baloram Kshetri in Kamrup Metropolitan district.

Among the five, Siddharth Sharma served as Zubeen Garg’s manager, while Sandipan Garg, his cousin, is also an officer with the Assam State Police. Mahanta, the organizer of the Singapore event Garg attended before his death, was in Singapore at the time but not present at the site of the incident. Siddharth and Sandipan were reportedly at the scene when the drowning occurred.

The arrests were made earlier this month by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is probing the circumstances surrounding the singer’s drowning in Singapore on September 19, 2025.

Zubeen Garg, revered as both a musical legend and cultural icon of Assam, was 52. He began his career in 1990 and became one of the most beloved voices of the region before achieving national fame with his Hindi playback debut in “Jaane Kya Hoga Rama Re” from Kaante. His breakthrough came with the 2006 chartbuster “Ya Ali” from Gangster, a song that continues to resonate with audiences nearly two decades later.

Over a career spanning more than three decades, Garg recorded around 38,000 songs across major Indian languages. Despite his success in Bollywood, he remained rooted in Assam, producing independent music and championing Assamese culture until his untimely death. (Source: IANS)
