Shaan Pays Tribute to KK on Late Singer’s 58th Birth Anniversary
Mumbai — Singer Shaan remembered his late friend and fellow singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, on what would have been his 58th birth anniversary, celebrating his music during a recent concert in Nepal.
Shaan shared a video from his performance in Kathmandu and said he has been fortunate to mark KK’s birthday with fans at concerts over the years.
“Incidentally every year I get the good fortune to celebrate KK’s birthday at a concert where his fans sing and celebrate his special day. This time in Nepal, we all sang and danced to KK’s songs. Happy Birthday Brother,” Shaan wrote on social media.
Shaan performed in Kathmandu on Aug. 22, presenting several of his popular songs before the Nepalese audience.
The tribute carried special significance because of Shaan and KK’s long friendship and professional association. The two singers collaborated on several popular Bollywood tracks and frequently shared the stage.
Their collaborations included “Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe” from “Dil Chahta Hai,” “It’s the Time to Disco” from “Kal Ho Naa Ho,” “Dus Bahane” from “Dus” and “O Humdum Suniyo Re” from “Saathiya.”
Shaan has previously described KK as easy-going and disciplined, while also noting that the singer valued his personal space.
Born on Aug. 23, 1968, KK began his professional career singing advertising jingles before becoming one of Hindi cinema’s most recognizable playback singers.
He made his playback debut with “Chhod Aaye Hum” from the 1996 film “Maachis” and achieved a major breakthrough with “Tadap Tadap Ke Is Dil Se” from “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” in 1999.
That same year, KK released his debut non-film album “Pal,” which included the popular songs “Pal” and “Yaaron.”
He went on to record numerous hits, including “Aankhon Mein Teri,” “Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai,” “Alvida,” “Zindagi Do Pal Ki,” “Dil Kyun Yeh Mera” and “Kya Mujhe Pyaar Hai.”
KK died on May 31, 2022, at age 53 after falling ill following a concert in Kolkata. (Source: IANS)
