BOSTON— Approximately 3,000 people gathered at the iconic Hatch Shell on Aug. 16, 2025 to celebrate India Day 2025, an event organized by the India Association of Greater Boston (IAGB) to mark the 79th anniversary of India’s independence.
The day-long celebration, themed “Festival of Nations – A Cultural Kaleidoscope,” featured a wide array of cultural performances, a bustling marketplace, and a high-energy live concert that brought the diverse New England community together in a public show of unity and pride.
“This is more than a celebration of India’s independence,” said Tanu Phoenix, President of IAGB. “India Day is a platform for unity, diversity, and shared pride. We are humbled by the outpouring of love and participation from our community.”
Throughout the afternoon, visitors were treated to a vibrant cultural showcase that included traditional Indian music, classical and contemporary dance performances, and cross-cultural fusion acts. The event culminated in a headline performance by Din Check, a popular Greater Boston band known for its mix of Bollywood hits, retro favorites, and dynamic fusion music. The performance drew hundreds to their feet, dancing and singing as the evening drew to a close.
In addition to the stage performances, more than 25 vendors took part in an open-air marketplace offering ethnic crafts, apparel, jewelry, artisanal goods, and cultural merchandise. Local restaurant The Treasury Indian & Greek Kitchen provided Indian cuisine throughout the day, adding to the festive atmosphere.
IAGB credited the success of the event to a coordinated effort by volunteers, performers, partners, and community organizations. The organization also acknowledged the support of the Hatch Shell staff and sponsors who helped make the event possible.
“Through this event, we aim to honor our heritage while embracing the many voices that enrich our collective story,” said Phoenix. “Together, we created memories that will last for generations.”
Founded in 1962, IAGB is the oldest and largest Indian-American organization in New England. It remains active in promoting cultural, educational, civic, and community engagement in the region.
