MUMBAI– Actress-singer Suchitra Krishnamoorthi has released her latest artistic work — an original composition inspired by India’s national song, Vande Mataram.
Unveiled Thursday on the eve of India’s Independence Day, the track blends the timeless spirit of patriotism with deep devotion. “For me, Vande Mataram is not just music — it is breath, it is heartbeat, it is the pulse of a billion dreams. I wanted to create something that feels like the nation’s own prayer — tender enough to soothe, powerful enough to stir,” Suchitra said.
Written in 1876 by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, Vande Mataram has inspired generations and fueled India’s freedom movement. Suchitra’s rendition honors that legacy while presenting a completely new musical creation — composed and sung by her — combining the sanctity of classical Indian music with contemporary fusion elements.
The accompanying music video, directed by Seshu KMR, visually celebrates India’s beauty and diversity, using sweeping landscapes, AI-enhanced imagery, and intimate human moments. The song is available on all major music platforms starting August 14, 2025.
This release follows the success of her bestselling memoir Drama Queen, which became India’s first musical audiobook on Audible Worldwide — a theatrical journey written, narrated, and performed by her.
Suchitra began her career while still in school with the TV series Chunauti and a stage role in Peanuts: The Musical. She made her film debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the 1994 hit Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, later starring in Kilukkampetti with Malayalam actor Jayaram. She also pursued a music career in the mid- to late 1990s, releasing pop albums including Dole Dole, Dum Tara, Aha, and Zindagi. (Source: IANS)
