Samsung Chief Joins Modi, South Korean President for Photo at Noida Plant

NEW DELHI — Samsung Electronics Executive Chairman Lee Jae-yong joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung for a selfie during a state luncheon at the company’s manufacturing facility in Noida, highlighting the tech giant’s production footprint in India.

The moment came after bilateral talks between Modi and the visiting South Korean leader and underscored the role of industrial collaboration in strengthening ties between the two countries.

Lee and Modi also interacted with business leaders from India and South Korea, according to a statement from the South Korean presidential office. Ahead of the luncheon, the leaders posed for a group photograph with industry representatives, with the gathering serving as a forum for continued economic engagement.

Samsung has operated its Noida plant since 1996, manufacturing a wide range of mobile devices, from entry-level phones to premium smartphones, including foldable models.

President Lee is on a multi-country state visit to India and Vietnam, accompanied by a large delegation of business leaders.

Lee Jae-yong was also scheduled to attend the Korea-India Business Forum, which drew about 250 South Korean business representatives, including leaders of the country’s top conglomerates such as Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, and LG Chairman Koo Kwang-mo.

During his visit, the South Korean president paid tribute at Raj Ghat, the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, honoring the Indian independence leader and pledging to promote his ideals of peace.

“Hoping Mahatma Gandhi’s peaceful spirit fills the world with peace, I will make joint efforts,” Lee said.

In a post on X earlier in the day, he expressed optimism about strengthening ties with India.

“If you look carefully, there are many things that serve the interests of both countries,” he said, adding that the two nations should work together to build a future grounded in peace and democracy. (Source: IANS)
