Akshay credits Balki with ‘effective’ road safety campaign
Mumbai– National Award-winning actor Akshay Kumar has given full credit to filmmaker R. Balki for making the Road Safety Awareness Campaign “effective” in an “entertaining manner”.
The “Rustom” star tweeted on Thursday that he has been getting remarkable feedback about the campaign.
“Getting some amazing feedback on the Road Safety Awareness campaign both online and offline. The idea was to send out a message in an entertaining manner, full credit to my director R. Balki for bringing that out so effectively. Hope to see some real changes now for the better,” Akshay tweeted.
Akshay, the brand ambassador of the Indian government’s Road Safety Campaign along with Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari had launched a Public Service Announcement (PSA) about road awareness on Tuesday.
The “Airlift” star on Twitter had said that he immediately joined the campaign when he got to know the shocking facts and figures related to road accidents which can be prevented.
John Abraham ‘extremely disturbed’ by Kerala floods
Mumbai– Actor John Abraham says he is extremely disturbed by what is happening in Kerala, where heavy rains have led to flooding of several districts.
John, who had the fondest childhood memories of Kerala, on Thursday morning urged people to donate to the Chief Minister’s fund to help the flood-hit people.
“Extremely disturbed by what is happening in Kerala. My fondest childhood memories have been there. Please come forward and donate to the chief minister’s fund,” John wrote.
With rains still pouring down heavily leading to flooding of dams and rivers across Kerala, 12 fresh deaths were reported on Thursday, taking the toll to 79, since August 8.
Entire Kerala has been on a red alert since Wednesday evening. A total of 28 deaths were reported on the day. The deaths on Thursday were reported from Malappuram, Kozhikode, Palakkad and Thrissur.
Pathanamthitta district in central Kerala has been the worst affected in the last 24 hours as thousands of people were trapped in their homes in Ranni, Aranmula and Kozhencherry.
Fishing boats from Kollam reached the flooded areas as the rescue operation continued with the aid of defence personnel.
Sonakshi’s ‘mantra’ for instant dose of happiness
Mumbai– Actress Sonakshi Sinha says her mantra for an instant dose of happiness is to watch something that is light and happy.
English Entertainment channel Romedy NOW will introduce a specially curated property ‘Happy Hours’, a line-up of romantic comedies, in collaboration with Sonakshi-starrer “Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi”.
“My mantra for an instant dose of happiness is to watch something that is light and happy like a rom-com or a chick-flick, which is light viewing and makes me forget all stresses,” Sonakshi said in a statement.
“From the films that will air on ‘Happy Hours’, ‘Monte Carlo’ is my favourite because it is about three girls and a case of mistaken identity. ‘Monte Carlo’ is a fun and light watch which makes you smile and gives you butterflies in the stomach and shares a storyline similar to ‘Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi’,” she added.
Varun Dhawan wishes father David Dhawan on birthday
Mumbai– On the ocassion of the 63rd birthday of director David Dhawan, his son and actor Varun Dhawan penned a heartfelt message for his father.
The “Badlapur” actor on Thursday wrote on his Instagram account: “Happy birthday Pa. All I can say is I don’t know anyone else who is as passionate about making movies like you. Can’t wait to get back on set with u, DD NO. 1.”
Along with the post, he uploaded an old photograph in which the director, who has helmed various hit comedy films, can be seen standing with actors Govinda and Satish Kaushik on the set of the 1996 hit comedy film “Saajan Chale Sasural”.
Varun also shared a few photos from the birthday celebrations on his Instagram stories. One photograph was of a gifted handmade scrapbook and a collage of posters of his father’s films.
On the work front, Varun will be seen next in Sharat Katatria’s directorial “Sui Dhaga – Made in India”, which is slated to release on September 28.
Kareena to be showstopper at Monisha Jaising’s LFW finale
Mumbai– Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor Khan will take to the ramp at the finale of the forthcoming Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) Winter/Festive 2018 edition as the showstopper in a creation by designer Monisha Jaising.
Kareena has added magnificence to LFW finales in the past. She dazzled the ramp when she was pregnant with her first child Taimur, and then she also did her first ramp walk at LFW after delivering her son.
“But this season is even more special, she says.
“We have a big announcement to make which I cannot wait to share with everyone. I’m also looking forward to Monisha’s collection which will be a glamorous interpretation of the ‘Shades of a diva’ theme,” Kareena said in a statement to IANS.
The “Veere Di Wedding” star, who is the brand ambassador of Lakme, will reveal how the brand and she plan to bring alive this season’s beauty theme of “Shades of a diva”.
Reema always pushed me to give a better shot: Amit Sadh
Mumbai– Actor Amit Sadh says “Gold” director Reema Kagti always motivated him to give a better shot.
Amit on Thursday shared a photograph of himself along with Kagti, who he calls a friend.
“Thank you Reema Kagti, the captain of the ship for directing me with love and patience. You always pushed me to give a better shot, to be a better Raghubir and I can’t thank you enough for it. My biggest victory from ‘Gold’ is making a friend like you who I’ll have for the rest of my life,” Amit captioned the image.
“Gold”, a historical sports drama, is inspired by India’s first Olympic gold medal.
It traces the golden era of Indian hockey through the journey of Tapan Das, a young assistant manager in 1936, who dreamt of playing for an independent nation.
The film also features Kunal Kapoor, Sunny Kaushal, Vineet Kumar Singh and Mouni Roy. It released on Wednesday.
Youngsters must be more politically aware than ever before: Andrea Jeremiah
Mumbai– “Vishwaroopam 2” actress Andrea Jeremiah, who feels the film is very relevant in the present socio-political situation of the nation, says the youth of the country should have more political awareness.
The spy thriller, released earlier this month, addresses some political conflicts.
Asked if she is politically aware as a citizen, Andrea told IANS here: “I believe that this is the time when we youngsters should be more aware of politics than ever before because we have to keep our country in good hands. When I was a youngster, I and people like us who are educated and progressive-minded, did not take interest in politics.
“But then I realised that half of the parliament is being run by politicians with criminal records… Is it a country administered by criminals then? Whom are we choosing as our representatives? Are they really educated enough to build our country as a progressive nation? If not, we are in a dangerous position.”
The global political turmoil is ruining the value of human minds.
According to Andrea, “this has happened in the last 10 years because educated people like you and I are not politically aware and neither do we take interest in politics.”
The first part of “Vishwaroopam” released in 2013, and the political context of the story had faced some controversy. However, Andrea believes that the Kamal Hassan-starrer film holds much more relevance in current time. (IANS)
