Important to tell today’s generation about the Emergency: Madhur Bhandarkar
Mumbai– Film-maker Madhur Bhandarkar on Friday said he made “Indu Sarkar” as it was important to tell about the emergency to the today’s generation.
“I always wanted to make a period film and I am a big fan of 1970s so when me and my writer (Anil) were brainstorming on this, suddenly the idea of the Emergency popped out. So we thought of making a movie against the Emergency’s backdrop with a touch of human drama.
“The events in the film are inspired by true events and I thought its important to tell this story specially to today’s generation as they are not aware about this Emergency of 21 months from 1975 to 1977,” said Bhandarkar at the trailer launch where he was accompanied with his entire team
“Though now because of social media, there is lot of awareness and since the last five-six years, people are politically more aware about things. So we thought that this is the right time to make a film on the Emergency,” he added.
With music composed by Anu Malik, the film, produced by Bhandarkar Entertainment and Mega Bollywood Pvt. Ltd, opens in theatres on July 28.
Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow’ tour all about memories: A.R. Rahman
Mumbai–Oscar winning composer A.R. Rahman says his ‘Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow’ tour which will mark 25 years of his journey in the music industry, is all about memories he has collected over the years.
Awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2010, Rahman is a two-time Academy Award winner whose works have also been celebrated with two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe, four National Film Awards, fifteen Filmfare Awards and 15 Filmfare Awards South.
Starting on July 8, the tour will begin at Wembley in London, celebrating the music maestro’s journey from the hit song “Roja” to “Kaatru Veliyidai”.
“These last 25 years have been truly memorable and magical. This tour is all about the music and the memories. I’ve been immensely blessed to have the love and support of my fans, friends and family which inspires me everyday.
“I look forward to July 8 at Wembley, London as we celebrate the journey from ‘Roja’ to ‘Rockstar’ to ‘Kaatru Veliyidai’. Accompanying me is an energetic and gifted team of singers and musicians,” Rahman said in a statement.
The ‘Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow’ tour will also feature musicians like Benny Dayal, Neeti Mohan, Haricharan, Jonita Gandhi, Ranjit Barot and Javed Ali.
The tour is presented by Hamsini Entertainment, UK and HueBox Entertainment, India.
Preity Zinta to launch own make-up line
Mumbai– Bollywood actress Preity Zinta has revealed she is coming up with her own make-up line.
During a Twitter chat on Friday, when a fan asked her which book adaptation would she like to see herself in or like to see on screen generally, Preity replied: “Right now I have my movie ‘Bhaiyyaji Superhitt’ coming soon, a Women’s Safety project and a make-up line coming out so my hands are full.”
Directed by Neeraj Pathak, “Bhaiyyaji Superhitt” also stars Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel.
Preity says that its her most “mad” character so far.
“Coming to a theatre near you with ‘Bhaiyyaji Superhitt’, so please watch it when it comes out. It’s my most mad character and I’m super excited,” she replied to one of the fans’ question.
When another fan asked her about a sequel of her one of most memorable film “Veer-Zaara”, she said: “I will work in ‘Veer-Zaara’ 22 also. Sorry couldn’t resist.”
“Veer-Zaara”, which also featured Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji, was released in 2004.
Always wanted to do a great war film: Arjun Rampal
Mumbai– Actor Arjun Rampal, who is set to feature in JP Dutta’s “Paltan”, says he always wanted to work in a “great war film”.
“Always wanted to do a great war film. Play a true soldier. As that is a backdrop I grew up in. JP sir’s ‘Paltan’ promises to be all of the above. I am so charged up to be a part of it as I believe I couldn’t be in better hands,” Arjun said in a statement.
According to sources “Paltan” will boast of an exciting ensemble star cast.
Produced by JP Films and directed by Dutta, the film will go on the floors later this year, and is scheduled for a summer 2018 release.
Dutta has films like “Border”, “Refugee” and “LOC Kargil” to his credit.
Inside Edge’ is fictional, say makers
Mumbai–India’s first Amazon original web-series “Inside Edge”, which revolves around the dark side of cricket world including match fixing and sports politics as well as involvement of entertainment industry, is fictional and has nothing to do with any individual from the real life, its makers said on Friday.
At its launch, Ritesh Sidhwani from Excel Media & Entertainment, responding to queries if the story has any similarities that of IPL and its scam, said: “No, the story is totally fictional and it has got nothing to do with any real life incident. Of course from the trailer it is looking a bit similar because we have seen cricket and also watch films. These two are a part of our culture, so you might get a familiar feeling.”
The web series features Richa Chadha, Angad Bedi, Vivek Oberoi, Sayoni Gupta, Sarah Jane Dias, and Sanjay Suri among others.
The web series can be watched on July 10 on Amazon Prime Video.
Won’t touch dad’s ‘Agni Natchathiram’: Gautham Karthik
Chennai–Actor Gautham Karthik, basking in the success of his latest Tamil film “Rangoon”, says he won’t ever star in the remake of his father’s most memorable yesteryear Tamil classic “Agni Natchathiram”.
The 27-year-old has won over audiences and critics with “Rangoon”.
Some even described his performance as his career best.
Thrilled with the response and love, Gautham told IANS: “It feels really special that I finally have a hit film. I know I made some wrong career choices and that’s why this success means a lot. It motivates me to work harder.”
Gautham, son of veteran Tamil actor Karthik, was launched by Mani Ratnam in “Kadal”.
The film tanked, but he still considers it a “special debut”.
“I owe my career to Mani sir and ‘Kadal’. If not for that film, I wouldn’t have ventured into acting and done ten films so far. The film’s failure didn’t affect me,” he said.
