LOWELL, MA– Beej Das, Democratic candidate for Congress in Massachusetts’ Third Congressional District, announced that he is officially on the ballot for the Democratic Primary. The campaign submitted more than the required 2,000 certified signatures to the Secretary of the Commonwealth this afternoon.
“I am thrilled to have completed this phase of the campaign,” said Das. “I want to thank both those who were willing to sign my nomination forms, and my team for working with me to demonstrate the wide-reaching support this campaign has across the district.”
As a first generation Indian American, Das views his presence on the ballot as another sign to children of color across the country that their voice and perspective matter in politics. If elected, Beej would be the first Indian American to represent any East Coast state from Florida to Maine in Congress and is the first Indian American on the ballot for U.S. House of Representatives from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
“I am proud of my heritage,” said Das. “I brought my parents with me today to submit these signatures because their influence on my life is a large part of both why I am running and why I have been successful thus far. It is important to me that Indian American families like mine in Massachusetts know that their interests are being looked out for in our federal government. This is especially important in today’s political climate, with the hate and bigotry coming from Washington. We need greater diversity in our elected officials.”
