Gulzar, Amit Trivedi and B Praak Unite for “Sach Ka Daayra” From Meghna Gulzar’s Daayra

The new song, featuring lyrics by Gulzar, music by Amit Trivedi and vocals by B Praak, explores the film’s themes of truth, perception and justice

MUMBAI — A new song from Meghna Gulzar’s upcoming film Daayra brings together three prominent names in Indian music — poet and lyricist Gulzar, composer Amit Trivedi and singer B Praak — for a track designed to reflect the emotional and thematic world of the film.

Titled “Sach Ka Daayra,” the song was released by Junglee Music, a division of Times Music, and features the creative collaboration of actors Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran under Meghna Gulzar’s direction.

Rather than functioning simply as a conventional film song, “Sach Ka Daayra” is positioned as an extension of Daayra’s narrative, exploring ideas of truth, perception and perspective.

Gulzar’s lyrics form the foundation of the track, while Trivedi’s atmospheric composition and B Praak’s vocals give the song an emotional intensity. The result is a song centered on the shifting nature of truth and the ways in which circumstances and perspectives can shape how it is understood.

“Sach Ka Daayra captures the emotional core of the film. Gulzar sahab’s words, Amit’s composition and B Praak’s voice come together with an intensity that stays with you,” Kareena Kapoor Khan said.

Prithviraj Sukumaran described the song as one that encourages listeners to pause and reflect.

“Sach Ka Daayra makes you pause and think. The depth of the writing and the mood created by the music make it feel like another voice within the story,” he said.

For B Praak, the song required a restrained approach to its emotional material.

“This song asked for a different kind of expression. There is strength in its emotion, but also a quietness, and finding that balance was what made recording it special,” he said.

Trivedi said the composition was developed to remain closely connected to the film’s story.

“The song needed a sound that stayed true to the story. Gulzar sahab’s layered writing and B Praak’s emotional force came together to create something deeply rooted in the world of Daayra,” he said.

Meghna Gulzar said the track reflects the central emotions running through the film.

“Sach Ka Daayra distils the emotional core of the film, its angst, helplessness and beneath it all, a plea for justice to prevail,” she said. “The lyrics, composition and vocals come together to give these emotions their full weight and intensity.”

Gulzar described the song as a reflection on the fluid nature of truth.

“Sach ka Daayra ek tarfa nahin hai. Na vo ek lakeer hai. Waqt, haalaat aur nazariye ke saath, vo badalta rehta hai. Aur yahi, ye gaana bayaan karta hai,” he said.

The song marks another collaboration between established names across Hindi cinema and music, bringing Gulzar’s poetry together with Trivedi’s contemporary film composition and B Praak’s distinctive vocal style.

Mandar Thakur, CEO of Junglee Music/Times Music, said the combination of the three artists was central to the track’s impact.

“Sach Ka Daayra brings together three extraordinary artistic voices for a compelling story. Its unconventional and emotionally powerful sound is what makes it truly impactful,” he said.

Daayra stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran and is directed by Meghna Gulzar. The film brings together the director’s focus on complex human stories with a narrative built around questions of truth, justice and perspective.

With “Sach Ka Daayra,” the filmmakers are using music as another storytelling device, allowing the song to reinforce the emotional questions at the heart of the film.

“Sach Ka Daayra” is now streaming on audio platforms, with the full video available on the Times Music YouTube channel.
