India Pledges Support to Nepal After Deadly Flash Floods
New Delhi — Indian political leaders on Wednesday expressed condolences and pledged support to Nepal after devastating flash floods in the Bhote Koshi River left several people feared dead and hundreds missing in Rasuwa.
Bharatiya Janata Party President Nitin Nabin said India stood with Nepal as authorities assessed the scale of the disaster.
“Deeply saddened by the widespread loss of life and devastation caused by the severe floods in Nepal. In this difficult time, I pray for the safety and well-being of our brothers and sisters in Nepal,” Nabin said in a post on X.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had spoken with Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah and assured him that India was prepared to provide humanitarian assistance.
BJP Spokesperson Ajay Alok described the flooding as a devastating natural disaster and said India’s “deepest sympathies and full support” were with Nepal.
Alok said Home Minister Amit Shah had directed relief efforts to be carried out on a “war footing.” He added that Shah had also spoken with Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary amid concerns about possible flooding in districts along the Nepal border.
“At this time of natural disaster, India stands firmly with the people of Nepal and with Nepal,” Alok said.
Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar also expressed concern over the situation, saying people in Nepal were suffering and describing them as India’s “brothers and sisters.”
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said he was “deeply saddened” by the flash floods and offered condolences to families who had lost loved ones.
“We stand in solidarity with the people of Nepal in this hour of grief,” Kharge said on X, while also expressing concern for those still missing.
Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi also offered condolences to the families of the victims.
“My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of those who have lost their lives. My thoughts are with the families anxiously waiting for news of their loved ones,” Gandhi said.
“I stand in solidarity with the people of Nepal and everyone affected by this tragic disaster,” he added. (Source: IANS)
