Anu Malik Praises Kumar Sanu for Elevating ‘Sambhala Hai Maine’

MUMBAI — Composer Anu Malik has revisited one of his favorite songs, “Sambhala Hai Maine” from the film Naaraaz, while crediting Kumar Sanu with transforming the track through his distinctive voice.
Appearing on India’s Best Dancer Season 5, Malik said Sanu brought an emotional depth to the song that exceeded his own expectations.
“Iss manch ke zariye Sanu ke baare mein kuch kehna chahta hoon. Kabhi maine itni tareef nahi ki hain. Iss gaane mein 100 chand laga diye Sanu ji ne apni awaaz se,” Malik said.
He added that he would always remain grateful to singers who fully immersed themselves in the music they performed.
“Main zindagi bhar aabhaari rahunga aise singers ka, jismein se ek Sanu hain, jinhone gaane ko dil se lagaya hain,” Malik said.
Sanu, in turn, thanked Malik for choosing him to sing “Sambhala Hai Maine,” as the two reflected on their collaboration.
Malik also spoke about his creative process and the solitude involved in composing music.
“Sangeetkar gaana akela sochta hain, kaise banaye yeh gana yeh sochta hain, Maa Saraswati ko yaad karke,” he said.
The composer recalled that he often left the studio immediately after recording a song rather than staying to hear praise.
“I record and main bhag jaata tha aur tareef ke liye nahi rukta tha, lekin main dusre ki taarif jarur karta tha aur dusro se jaake puchta tha ki gaana kaise laga,” Malik said.
He said that while he was uncomfortable waiting for compliments about his own work, he made a point of appreciating other artists and seeking their reactions to the songs they created together.
