Sensex Jumps 1,225 Points as Strong Corporate Earnings Fuel Rally in Indian Stocks

MUMBAI– Indian stock markets rallied sharply Tuesday, with the benchmark Sensex gaining more than 1,200 points and the Nifty closing above 23,800 as strong corporate earnings and renewed investor interest in traditional sectors helped extend gains for a fourth consecutive trading session.

The BSE Sensex surged 1,225.07 points, or 1.62%, to close at 76,917.85, while the NSE Nifty 50 advanced 370.05 points, or 1.58%, to finish at 23,810.85.

The rally was driven by optimism surrounding quarterly earnings from Indian companies, along with a shift in investor preferences as global technology and artificial intelligence-related stocks faced selling pressure.

Consumer goods companies were among the biggest beneficiaries, with shares of Nestle India and Tata Consumer Products posting strong gains. BSE also ranked among the session’s leading performers.

The Nifty FMCG index, which tracks fast-moving consumer goods companies, surged nearly 3%, making it the strongest-performing sector of the day. Investors increased their exposure to consumer-focused businesses amid improving expectations for corporate profits and domestic demand.

The broader market also advanced, although gains were smaller than those recorded by the benchmark indices.

The Nifty Midcap 100 rose 1.06%, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 gained 0.31%, indicating that buying interest was concentrated more heavily in larger companies.

Public sector banking stocks were an exception to the positive trend, with the Nifty PSU Bank index ending the session lower despite the broader market rally.

Market analysts said the four-session recovery has strengthened the near-term outlook for Indian equities, although technical resistance could limit further advances.

The Nifty is expected to encounter resistance between 23,800 and 23,900, a range that could determine whether the benchmark extends its recent gains.

“On the downside, the 23,200–23,500 range is likely to act as immediate support in the event of a pullback. We reiterate our preference for stocks demonstrating relative strength, while maintaining prudent overnight risk management amid global event-related uncertainties,” analysts stated.

Investors have increasingly favored sectors supported by domestic consumption and corporate earnings as uncertainty surrounding global AI-related investments weighs on some international technology stocks.

Analysts also pointed to stable domestic economic conditions and changing global investment flows as factors contributing to improved market sentiment.

The Indian rupee strengthened during the session, gaining approximately 0.15% to trade at 94.74 against the U.S. dollar.

Lower commodity prices helped support the currency by easing concerns about India’s import costs, particularly for energy and other essential commodities.

“Going ahead, the rupee’s outlook will depend on commodity price movements, global dollar trends and foreign fund flows, with expectations of improved capital inflows providing some support to the currency,” analysts noted.

Market participants will continue monitoring corporate earnings announcements, foreign investment flows and global economic developments to assess whether the current rally can be sustained.

The strong Tuesday close marked another positive session for Indian equities, with the Sensex and Nifty building on recent gains as investors responded to improving earnings expectations and shifting global market conditions. (Source: IANS)
