Ed Sheeran Reveals How Shah Rukh Khan Inspired His Bollywood Debut Song ‘Tu Mil Jaaye’

MUMBAI– British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has revealed how a friendship with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan led to his involvement in “Tu Mil Jaaye,” a song from Khan’s upcoming film “King,” marking Sheeran’s first Bollywood film song.
Sheeran shared behind-the-scenes footage from the recording session on Instagram Tuesday, offering fans a glimpse of his collaboration with Indian music composer Jigar Saraiya of the Sachin-Jigar duo.
The video shows Sheeran singing in Hindi while working with Saraiya on the track, which also features vocals by renowned Indian playback singer Arijit Singh.
In a joint Instagram post with Khan, Sheeran explained that the collaboration originated during their first meeting, when the Bollywood actor suggested that the British musician contribute a song to one of his future films.
“When I first met Shah Rukh, he said I must make a song to be in his next movie and also be my first Bollywood song,” Sheeran wrote.
The two entertainers maintained their friendship over the years, eventually finding an opportunity to turn their earlier conversation into a musical collaboration.
Sheeran said the project took shape during his most recent visit to India, when he traveled to Khan’s residence to arrange a cameo appearance by the actor in the music video for “Sapphire,” his collaboration with Arijit Singh.
During that visit, Khan introduced Sheeran to the Indian composer duo Sachin-Jigar, setting the stage for the creation of “Tu Mil Jaaye.”
According to Sheeran, he wrote and recorded his portion of the song that same evening.
“We’ve gotten to know each other over the years and I love him. Last time I was in India I went to his house to get him to shoot a cameo in the Sapphire music video for me and @arijitsingh. He introduced me to @sachinjigar that day and I wrote and recorded my verse for Tu Mil Jaaye for his movie King that night. I love that Arijit is singing on it with me too, all my favourite people on one project. King is out December 24th and Tu Mil Jaaye is out everywhere now (sic),” Sheeran wrote.
The singer expressed particular enthusiasm about working with Arijit Singh, describing the collaboration as an opportunity to bring together several people he admires.
The recording marks another connection between Sheeran and the Indian music industry, following his earlier work with Singh on “Sapphire.”
“Tu Mil Jaaye” is featured in “King,” which stars Shah Rukh Khan and is scheduled for a theatrical release on December 24, 2026.
The song is already available on music streaming platforms, giving audiences an early preview of the musical collaboration ahead of the film’s release. (Source: IANS)
