NEW DELHI– Indian Ambassador to the United States Vinay Mohan Kwatra recently met with U.S. Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard for what he described as an “engaging conversation” on a range of shared interests.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Kwatra wrote, “Pleasure to meet DNI @TulsiGabbard and her husband @abewilliamsdp. We had an engaging conversation on various issues of mutual interest.” He also posted a photograph from the meeting, showing him alongside Gabbard and her husband, Abraham Williams.
While specific details of the discussion were not disclosed, the meeting came just days after U.S. President Donald Trump announced the imposition of 25% tariffs on Indian goods starting August 7. Trump also warned of further penalties in response to India’s continued purchase of Russian oil.
In a public address on Saturday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that the welfare of farmers, small businesses, and youth remains the government’s top priority as India stays on track to become the world’s third-largest economy.
“There is an atmosphere of global instability. Every country is pursuing its own interests. India must stay alert and protect its economic interests. The use of indigenous products is key,” Modi said during a rally in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
Vinay Mohan Kwatra previously served as India’s 34th Foreign Secretary from May 2022 to July 2024. Prior to his current role as Ambassador to the U.S., he also held ambassadorial positions in France and Nepal.
Tulsi Gabbard, appointed as the eighth U.S. Director of National Intelligence, has served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve since 2021. She previously represented Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District from 2013 to 2021 and was the youngest state legislator in Hawaii’s history, serving from 2002 to 2004. (Source: IANS)
