Javed Ali Says ‘Siya Ram’ Deepened His Connection With Devotional Music
Mumbai — Singer Javed Ali has opened up about lending his voice to “Siya Ram” from the upcoming film “Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha,” saying the experience strengthened his connection with devotional music.
Ali, who performs the Hindi version of the song, said the track felt more like a prayer than a conventional recording.
“‘Siya Ram’ is not just a song I have sung; it is a prayer I have felt. Singing the names of Siya and Ram brought a profound sense of surrender and peace that words cannot fully express,” he said.
He added that devotional music requires more than simply performing the lyrics.
“It reminded me that devotional music is not about merely lending your voice to the lyrics; it is about giving a part of yourself to them. This experience has deepened my desire to explore devotional music and connect with it at a much more spiritual level,” Ali said.
Anurag Sharma, who sings the Chhattisgarhi version, said the language’s softness and humility made the recording particularly personal.
“When you sing a song rooted in faith, the goal isn’t just to hit the right notes but to carry the weight of those emotions authentically,” Sharma said.
He added that he wanted the performance to reflect both the sweetness of the Chhattisgarhi language and the reverence of the story.
The makers of “Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha” released “Siya Ram” on Wednesday in both Hindi and Chhattisgarhi. The song celebrates the bond between Shri Ram and Mata Sita, with Ali performing the Hindi rendition and Sharma singing the Chhattisgarhi version.
The film and its songs were shot simultaneously in both languages.
“Siya Ram” was composed by Ashish and Dev, with lyrics by Jaidev Jonwal, and has been released under Divo Music. The track is available on major streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music and Gaana.
Presented by AJ Film Entertainment World, “Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha” is directed by Abhishek Singh and produced by Prakash Mahobiya and Sanjay Bundela.
The film stars Dev Sharma, Anjali Arora, Sheel Verma, Rajniesh Duggal and Nirbhay Wadhwa, with Honey Kuldeep Agarwal and Monika Sen serving as co-producers.
