Mary Millben Criticizes Zohran Mamdani Over Opposition to RSS Chief’s New York Event
Washington — American singer and actress Mary Millben on Wednesday criticized New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and other opponents of an upcoming Madison Square Garden event featuring Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat.
Millben said Mamdani and other critics were opposing the event because of their views toward Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party.
“Mamdani and all these socialist nuts are opposing the Madison Square Garden (MSG) event featuring Mohan Bhagwat because they oppose PM Narendra Modi and the BJP. That’s pretty clear,” Millben wrote on X.
She argued that Madison Square Garden, as a private venue, would make decisions based on commercial considerations rather than political pressure.
“My advice to Mamdani and his choir of socialists – become capitalists, raise money, rent MSG, and host your own rally for all your anti-Modi foolishness,” Millben wrote.
She also voiced support for the event’s “Oneness” theme and said she hoped the gathering would include meaningful discussion about religious freedom in India.
Millben, who has gained recognition in India for performing the national anthem “Jana Gana Mana” and the devotional song “Om Jai Jagdish Hare,” was responding to comments Mamdani made Tuesday about the Aug. 29 gathering.
“I don’t support the rally, but I don’t know if the city has any jurisdiction on cancelling a private event,” Mamdani told reporters.
His comments followed calls from a coalition of 61 civil rights, faith, community and advocacy organizations urging Madison Square Garden to cancel the event.
Bhagwat recently arrived in the United States to participate in the gathering, which organizers have described as a major Hindu American event focused on unity, civic responsibility and global harmony.
According to organizers, the “Universal Oneness Celebration” will encourage participants to look beyond divisions and promote mutual respect and social harmony. The gathering will also coincide with celebrations of the Hindu festival of Raksha Bandhan.
Bhagwat is scheduled to speak at the Manhattan event on Saturday.
Organizers said the gathering will highlight the growing role of Hindu Americans in public life and their contributions to education, health care, business, public service, philanthropy and civic engagement. (Source: IANS)
