Thrissur– As Thrissur gears up for the grandeur of this year’s Pooram, a theme song sung by 10-year-old Aditya G. Nair has become an unexpected sensation. The track, Pooraperumal, is resonating widely with listeners just ahead of the iconic temple festival, often hailed as the “mother of all festivals” in Kerala.
Blending tradition with a youthful spirit, Pooraperumal captures the rhythm, devotion, and majestic energy that define Thrissur Pooram. The song, produced by Aditya Nair Productions in Mumbai, features Aditya’s own vocals alongside those of Varun T. Krishnan, with choral harmonies provided by the Harmony Hues Tradition Band.
For young Aditya, the track is more than just a musical release—it’s a heartfelt tribute. “I wanted to create a musical offering that pays homage to all deities and celebrates the divine spirit of Pooram,” he said. “This is more than a song—it’s an emotional journey. We aimed to capture the heartbeat of Pooram—its grandeur, rhythm, and devotion.”
The music was composed by Abhijith Sethu and Varun T. Krishnan, with devotional lyrics written by Ajeesh Vallachira and Abhijith Sethu. The rich and melodic background score is crafted by Ashlay J.C., adding to the song’s celebratory and reverent tone.
Thrissur Pooram, dating back to the late 18th century, was instituted by Sakthan Thampuran, the then Maharaja of the Kingdom of Cochin. Held in the heart of Thrissur at the sprawling Thekkinkadu Maidan, the festival brings together several temples, most notably the Vadakkunnathan Temple, Thiruvambadi Krishna Temple, and Paramekkavu Devi Temple.
The event is marked by awe-inspiring rituals and performances, including the famous Panchavadyam, in which over 250 musicians play traditional instruments like thimila, maddalam, edakka, trumpets, and cymbals in a thunderous and rhythmic ensemble.
Among the visual highlights is the Aana Chamayal Pradarsanam, an exhibition of elaborately decorated elephants, and the Kudamattom, a crowd-favorite spectacle in which 30 elephants (15 on each side) exchange colorful parasols in quick succession—drawing roars of approval from the sea of spectators.
Thrissur Pooram is not only a massive cultural event for Keralites but also a global attraction, drawing hundreds of international visitors every year who come to witness the vibrant celebration of Kerala’s spiritual and artistic heritage.
With Pooraperumal now adding a youthful voice to the festivities, this year’s Pooram promises to be even more memorable. (Source: IANS)
