Westford 8th Grader Teaches Robotics Camp, Raises $1,061 to Sponsor 8 Student’s Education for 1 Year in India

WESTFORD, MA–Shriyans Sapkal from Smartgears Robotics Club led and conducted a free Lego Robotics camp to raise funds for Bighelp for Education.

Mr. Sapkal asked for voluntary donation for Bighelp and raised $1,061. He wants to support education of about 8 students in underprivileged rural areas of India.

Chand Pasha, president of Bighelp, attended the graduation ceremony and camp students demonstrated the work they learnt during the camp. Chand Pasha handed over the collected donation check for $1,061 to Mr. Pasha during the ceremony.

Mr. Sapkal, a rising 8th grader from Westford, MA, has been doing robotics for last four years and participated in various robotics competitions. He has been participating and volunteering in Bighelp events for last 8 years.

He wanted to pass on his knowledge and decided to utilize his free time in summer. So he spent more than 2 weeks to prepare the content for the robotics camp. He prepared the flyers and posted it in various places. He was able to get 17 students registered. Seventeen students ranging from 4th to 8th grade attended the camp.

Mr. Sapkal taught them Lego Technics, Gears, Lego Robot building and EV3 programming. He had a lot of fun teaching the students. He plans to continue teaching robotics and mentor rookie teams taking part in robotics competitions.
