U.S. Trade Delegation to Visit India Next Week for Talks, MEA Says

NEW DELHI — A U.S. trade delegation is expected to visit India next week to advance ongoing negotiations between the two countries, India’s Ministry of External Affairs said Friday.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the upcoming visit follows discussions held in April, when an Indian trade team traveled to the United States.
“We had a trade team that visited the United States in the month of April, if I am not mistaken. We are now expecting a team from the United States to visit India next week, where the negotiations will be taken forward,” Jaiswal said.
He said engagement between the two countries has so far been “positive and constructive,” adding that more details would be shared later.
The MEA did not provide further information on the agenda for the upcoming discussions, but indicated that trade negotiations are continuing in a constructive manner.
Jaiswal also responded to a question about a viral video that allegedly showed racism against Indians in the United States. He said he had not seen the specific post, but reiterated India’s position.
“I have not seen the post. However, racism of any kind, anywhere, is unacceptable,” he said.
The comments came as U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, speaking at an event in New Delhi, described the India-U.S. relationship as a defining partnership of the 21st century. He said no partnership is better positioned to take advantage of new opportunities, including in technology.
Earlier in May, the Indian government said a U.S. trade team led by its chief negotiator would visit India from June 1 to June 4 to finalize details of an interim agreement and continue negotiations under a broader bilateral trade framework.
Those talks are expected to cover areas including market access, non-tariff measures, customs and trade facilitation, investment promotion and economic security alignment. (Source: IANS)
