Sewa Boston’s Ujwal Gala 2026 Highlights Student Achievement, Food Security Initiatives, and Community Service
Annual fundraiser celebrates educational success stories, expansion of the ASPIRE program, and growing impact across Massachusetts

NEWTON, MA — Sewa International Boston Chapter brought together community leaders, volunteers, educators, donors, and supporters for its annual fundraising gala, Ujwal 2026: Nourishing Minds, Powering Progress, held at the Newton Marriott Hotel in Newton, MA.
The event showcased the nonprofit organization’s efforts in education, food security, youth development, and family support, while highlighting the impact of its programs across Massachusetts.
A central theme of the evening was student success. Organizers celebrated the graduation of 67 students who overcame significant barriers to continue their education and recognized the successful launch of the Sewa ASPIRE Program, an initiative aimed at helping students access educational opportunities and support services.
The gala also spotlighted Sewa Boston’s expanding efforts to address food insecurity. Earlier this year, the organization launched its Fresh Hot Meal Program at the African Community Education (ACE) Center in partnership with the World Food Movement. The initiative provides nutritious meals and support services to students and families, reflecting a broader approach that combines educational assistance with efforts to meet basic needs.
One of the evening’s segments featured a fireside conversation with students who have benefited from Sewa’s programs. Participants shared personal stories about overcoming challenges and pursuing academic and career goals with the help of transportation assistance, mentoring, educational resources, and meal support.
Their experiences offered attendees a firsthand look at how targeted support programs can help remove obstacles to educational achievement and economic mobility.
In addition to recognizing community impact, the gala featured a variety of cultural performances celebrating the diversity of the region’s communities.
The musical ensemble SOUNDSCAPES presented a fusion of Indian classical and world music, featuring musicians Kunal Gunjal on santoor, Steve Hunt on piano and keyboards, Amit Kavthekar on tabla, and Fabio Pirozzolo on percussion.
The evening also included a performance by the Samarthanam Sisters and the Sunadha Band, who traveled from India to participate in the event. Their tribute to legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle drew enthusiastic audience participation and served as one of the highlights of the program.
Throughout the evening, Sewa Boston leaders emphasized the role of volunteers, donors, community partners, and supporters in advancing the organization’s mission of service and community empowerment.
Organizers also acknowledged several partners who contributed to the event, including Utsav Event Planners & Decor, Fotu Duniya – The Picture World, sound engineer Joel Edinberg, Rajesh Shukla for audiovisual support, and Masala Art for catering services.
As Sewa Boston continues to expand its educational and food assistance initiatives, Ujwal 2026 served as both a celebration of recent accomplishments and an opportunity to highlight ongoing community needs. The event underscored the organization’s focus on creating pathways to educational success while addressing challenges that can affect student achievement and family well-being.
Founded on the principle of selfless service, Sewa Boston works with volunteers and community partners to support programs that promote education, health, and economic opportunity for individuals and families throughout the region.
