Long-Time House Help Recalls Asha Bhosle as “Grounded and Respectful”

Sunam Salve, who worked at the singer’s home for four decades, remembers her kindness, humility, and warmth even as tributes pour in from across the country following her death at 92.

Mumbai–As the nation mourns the passing of legendary singer Asha Bhosle, heartfelt memories continue to emerge from those who knew her closely. Sunam Salve, who worked at Bhosle’s residence for nearly 40 years, remembered the iconic singer as a deeply grounded person who treated her with dignity and respect.

Asha Bhosle passed away in Mumbai on Sunday at the age of 92. She had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday following multiple medical complications and later succumbed to multiple organ failure, according to doctors.

Recalling her long association with the singer, Salve said Bhosle always treated her with kindness despite her global fame. “I used to work at her house, and her behaviour was very good. She gave a lot of respect to a poor woman like me who lives in a slum,” she told IANS.

She added that the news of the singer’s hospitalisation had left her deeply worried. “When we came to know she was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital, we were very anxious. Today’s news has left us heartbroken,” she said.

Salve also highlighted Bhosle’s humility, recalling that the singer had even visited her village and was always supportive whenever she needed leave. “She never refused me when I asked for time off,” she said.

Another domestic worker, Pushpa Navar, who previously worked at the residence of Lata Mangeshkar, also expressed grief over Bhosle’s passing. “All the sisters were very kind. They treated me like family and gave me a lot of love,” she said.

Asha Bhosle’s son, Anand Bhosle, confirmed that the singer’s mortal remains will be kept at her Mumbai residence in Lower Parel for last respects on Monday at 11 a.m. The last rites will be performed at Shivaji Park at 4 p.m.

President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and several Union Ministers joined the nation in expressing condolences, while members of the film fraternity also paid tribute to the legendary singer.

Bhosle’s passing marks the end of an era in Indian music, but memories of her humility and humanity continue to resonate alongside her timeless voice.
