Trump Says He Had ‘Very Good Talk’ With Modi, Signals Diplomatic Push Across Regions

WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump said he had a “very good talk” with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing the conversation as positive as Washington continues diplomatic efforts across South Asia and the Middle East.

“I had a very good talk with him… he’s doing great,” Trump told reporters at the White House.

During the same exchange, Trump said he may travel to Pakistan if a related diplomatic agreement is finalized.

“I would go to Pakistan, yeah… Islamabad, I’ll be — I might go,” he said. “If the deal is signed in Islamabad, I might go… they want me.”

He also spoke favorably about U.S. ties with Pakistan, saying, “Pakistan has been great, they’ve been so great.”

Trump’s comments come as the United States pursues multiple diplomatic tracks in the Middle East, including negotiations involving Iran and efforts to de-escalate tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border.

He said a potential ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon is taking shape and could involve Hezbollah.

“They’re all agreeing… it’s a very nice little package for about a week,” Trump said.

The president added that he has been in contact with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanon’s leadership as part of the effort.

“We’re going to be meeting with Bibi Netanyahu… and the President of Lebanon,” he said.

Trump described the potential breakthrough as significant, pointing to the possibility of direct engagement between Israel and Lebanon for the first time in decades.

“It’s very exciting because it’s 48 years,” he said, adding, “We’re going to have a meeting… first time in 44 years,” and noting it could be hosted at the White House.

On Hezbollah, Trump expressed confidence the group would adhere to any ceasefire terms.

“I think they will,” he said.

He emphasized that the goal is to reduce violence in the region.

“We’re not going to have lots of bombs dropping… we’re going to see if we can make peace between Lebanon and Israel,” Trump said.

He suggested progress could come quickly, saying developments may occur “over the next week or two.”

Trump also indicated Lebanon would take steps regarding Hezbollah as part of the process.

“They’re going to take care of Hezbollah… they’ll be working on Hezbollah right now,” he said.

The president added that he would consider traveling to the region if talks advance further.

“I would certainly go there… at the right time,” he said.

The remarks underscore Washington’s expanding diplomatic outreach as it seeks progress on Iran-related negotiations and broader regional stability, while also maintaining engagement with key partners in South Asia. (Source: IANS)
