Asha Bhosle Remembered by Granddaughter Zanai Bhosle With Heartfelt Tribute

MUMBAI, India — Zanai Bhosle paid tribute to her grandmother, legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, sharing a heartfelt message for fans as the country mourns the iconic artist.

Taking to Instagram Stories on Wednesday, Zanai shared a throwback video of herself with her grandmother. The clip shows the two enjoying a procession from their balcony, with Zanai affectionately kissing Asha Bhosle on the forehead.

“She would want us to celebrate just the way she celebrated life,” Zanai wrote alongside the video.

Asha Bhosle, one of India’s most influential playback singers, began her career in 1943 with the Marathi film Majha Bal. Over decades, she became known for a wide range of songs, including Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko, Do Lafzon Ki Hai Dil Ki Kahani, Kya Ghazab Karte Ho Ji, O Haseena Zulfonwale Jane Jahan, and Ye Ladka Hai Allah Kaisa Hai Diwana. She recorded music in around 20 Indian and international languages.

She died on April 12 after being admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. She was honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008.

Asha Bhosle was given a guard of honor at her residence in Mumbai’s Lower Parel area. Her funeral procession moved from her home to Shivaji Park crematorium in Dadar, where she was cremated with full state honors. Her remains were draped in the Indian tricolor.

Several prominent figures from the film and music industry attended the last rites, including Aamir Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Tabu, Vivek Oberoi, Anu Malik, Anup Jalota, Sudesh Bhosale, Shaan, Ramesh Sippy, and Padmini Kolhapure.

Political leaders also paid their respects, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Uddhav Thackeray, and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray. (Source: IANS)
