Six Killed After Bus Crashes Into Van on Gujarat Highway

SABARKANTHA, India — At least six people were killed and several others injured after a speeding private bus crashed into a passenger van on a highway in Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district on Wednesday, police said.
The collision occurred near Jasvantgadh Patiya, close to Himmatnagar, along the Shamlaji-Ahmedabad route. Authorities said the van was traveling toward Himmatnagar when it was struck from behind by the bus.
Gambhoi police station Inspector Alpesh Chaudhary said six occupants of the van died at the scene. “Six passengers in the van lost their lives on the spot, while four others sustained injuries,” he said.
The force of the impact left the van badly mangled, and emergency responders rushed the injured to a nearby hospital, where their condition was reported to be serious.
Preliminary findings indicate the bus was traveling at excessive speed at the time of the crash. “The accident appears to have been caused by the excessive speed of the bus. We have taken cognisance of the matter and initiated an investigation,” Chaudhary said.
Police and rescue teams arrived shortly after the incident and worked to pull victims from the wreckage. The crash caused temporary traffic disruptions on the highway as emergency operations were carried out.
Authorities have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the exact sequence of events, including the role of the bus driver. Officials said they are collecting statements and examining evidence from the scene.
The identities of the victims have not yet been released, and post-mortem procedures are underway.
The incident is the latest in a series of highway accidents in the region, with officials again urging drivers to follow traffic safety regulations. (Source: IANS)
