Chennai– Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman, who frequently travels between cities for work, recently revealed his unique approach to handling Mumbai’s notorious traffic.

In a recent interview, Rahman was asked if he ever found himself frustrated while stuck in traffic. With a chuckle, the acclaimed music director replied, “I never travel during the day.”

When pressed on whether he prefers working at night, Rahman confirmed, “Yeah, because at night, there’s no traffic. I can go anywhere. My team works only at night.”

Rahman also shared that on some early mornings, before the city awakens, he visits the Dargah (a Sufi shrine), returning home before traffic picks up to catch up on sleep.

“I’ve been doing this since the time of Taal,” Rahman said, referring to the 1999 film. “From back then, it’s been the same routine.”

When asked about his daily schedule, Rahman explained, “I wake up at… well, these days I’ve been sleeping at night. But normally, I get up at 2:30 a.m. and go to sleep around 7:00 a.m.”

Currently, the celebrated composer is working on multiple projects, including director Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan.

At the launch of the film’s first single, Rahman revealed he has been working on the score for the past four months and is still composing.

“Every day I’m working on something, sending it to Mani sir and asking, ‘Is this good or not?’” Rahman shared. “It’s Kamal sir’s movie. He’s done everything. It feels like every scene I’m scoring is looking at me, asking, ‘What are you going to do?’” (Source: IANS)
