BOSTON – The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Asian American Commission, known as AAC, announced that it will hold its 11th Annual Unity Dinner on Friday, May 26 at Boston University at 7:00 PM preceded by a networking reception. Proceeds will be used to support, expand and strengthen AAC’s advocacy work on behalf of the Asian American community in the Commonwealth.
“We are excited to have WGBH General Manager for Television Liz Cheng emcee our event themed Honoring Change Agents: Celebrating AAPI History, Progress & Achievement as we honor the work of Boa Newgate and the Southeast Asian Coalition (recipients of the Community Hero Award); Eastern Bank (recipient of the Leadership for Diversity and Inclusion Award); and Ms. Mary Chin (recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award),” remarked Executive Director Bora Chiemruom. “Attendees will also be treated to an electrifying performance by Verge Dance Company.”
“Along with our accomplished awardees, we are deeply honored to have keynote speaker retired Justice Fernande “Nan” Duffly, the first and only Asian American justice to serve on the Massachusetts Supreme Justice Court, and the timely remarks of Dr. Franklin Odo who will speak to the significance of the 75th anniversary of the signing of Executive Order 9066,” says AAC Chair Dr. Elisa Choi.

The Asian American Commission of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts was created by legislation on October 29, 2006. This Commission recognizes that the Asian American community is the fastest growing minority group in Massachusetts. The goal of the AAC is to recognize, as well as highlight, the vital contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to the social, cultural, economic, and political life of the Commonwealth. Additionally, the AAC is involved in identifying and addressing the various needs and challenges that currently face the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. The Commission provides a permanent, effective voice for Asian Americans, and is comprised of 21 diverse members who are appointed by the Governor, Attorney General, Auditor, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Secretary of State, and the Treasurer.
