New Delhi– A chilling video believed to be the final footage of Indore couple Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam before his alleged murder has surfaced online, casting a grim light on what was supposed to be a joyful honeymoon in Meghalaya.
The video, unintentionally captured by travel vlogger Devender Singh on May 23, shows the couple trekking through a forest trail near the famed Double Decker Root Bridge in Nongriat village, Cherrapunji. Singh posted the clip on Instagram, calling it “probably the last video of the Indore couple,” and urging viewers to share it widely to aid the ongoing investigation.
Singh said he only discovered the footage while reviewing his travel videos. “It was around 9:45 a.m. — we were trekking down from the village, and they were coming up after spending the night there,” he wrote in the caption. “Sonam was wearing the same white shirt later found near Raja’s body. Watching Raja now… it’s heartbreaking. He looked normal, unaware of what lay ahead.”
In the video, Sonam walks ahead carrying a polythene bag — likely containing a raincoat — while Raja follows closely behind, carrying most of their belongings. The clip has since gone viral, drawing more than 4.5 million views and sparking a wave of emotional and speculative responses from users.
“Her eyes lock onto the camera — not with fear, but with calculation,” one comment read. “As if she knew this footage might someday come back to haunt her.”
Another user added, “Raja looked so trusting, holding the bags, following his wife… and yet she was leading him to his death. It sends chills down the spine.”
According to Meghalaya Police, the couple checked out of Shipra Homestay between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m. on May 23 before beginning their trek. Later that same day, Raja was allegedly pushed into a 1,000-foot gorge. His body was discovered on June 2 after an extensive search operation.
Raja and Sonam had married on May 11 in Indore and traveled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon on May 21. They were reported missing from Sohra (Cherrapunji) on May 23.
Investigators later arrested Sonam in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, a week after the incident. During interrogation, she confessed to plotting the murder alongside her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha. She also named three accomplices: Vishal Chauhan, Anand Kurmi, and Akash Rajput — all of whom are now in police custody.
The case has sent shockwaves across the country, not only for its brutality but for the cold precision with which a honeymoon was allegedly turned into a murder plot. (Source: IANS)
